This interlude is probably the closest that this album comes to something that would serve the same calm and beautiful purpose as songs such as "Fade To Black" and "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", although this interlude has more of a demonic and haunting vibe, rather than a poignant and moving vibe.
@Peter_1986 Жыл бұрын
@@horusmusica8079 I am not sure how much that Dave Mustaine contributed to "Phantom Lord", however I do know that he was the sole composer of "The Mechanix" and the original version of "Jump In The Fire". I am also pretty sure that he wrote the D-minor riff in "The Call Of Ktulu", since he reused that exact same chord structure in "Hangar 18".

Its likely you probably have already, but the show that Metallica did and brought mustaine on to the stage with them after how many years and they play this song- when they were playing this interlude together in unison its fucking badass..... Dave gets the happy ending that he deserved honestly

@@Peter_1986 omg dude! I literally scream with him in the end of the song. Really shows how much power James’s young voice had. So much aggression and it even sounds like the perfect metal scream literally. James Herfiels’s voice is perfect for heavy metal. Especially back then

It always makes me think if an army of spectral skeletons, demons, or men that have been warped by chaotic or otherwise fundamental or powerful energies. Men that can only destroy, and are immortal to achieve this effect. Men who feel nothing, aside from the deep and mindless compulsion to destroy as much as they can

Metallica is one of those bands that any fan has valid reasons to love (Riffs, solos, mystique, songwriting, lyrics, speed, heaviness, harmonic guitars, rhythm solidness). Mine is, essencially, this unmistakable form of putting melodic elements and turn they heavy and remarkable, and this was the first perfect example of it. Listening to this loop, make us to think "The riff could be a great song by itself". And without any drop of heaviness and originality. As a musician (And a not a Rock/Metal composer anymore), it's still as one of my main influences, and as a fan, kinda gives some root vibes in terms of creation and notion of music.

In my opinion you just described exactly what heavy metal is. Everybody seems to think these days that it's all about the harsh, brutal aspects of it. Screaming growling, all this whack shit just to sound more extreme than the last. But they've missed the point completely. The reason why the old school shit still sounds SO heavy with hardly any distortion at all sometimes, is simply because it's not JUST about the harsh, brutal extremes, but the serene, and eloquent too. It's DYNAMICS. 🤘🏼✌🏼

Bro if they made a riff out of this for the full song it would totally have been my favourite song on the album and probably in my top 10 favourite Metallica songs. I know they made it the typical Kill Em All style riff but this would be so different and an ominous riff, fitting for the name of the song

I think that this part was added later to this song, since the "No Life 'Til Leather" demo version from 1982 doesn't have it. Or maybe they skipped it because they were more in a "fast mood" that time or something.

This is probably the closest that this album came to a ballad type of sound; it serves kind of as the "beautiful" part of that album, a little bit like "Fade To Black" and "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", although not quite to that degree, of course, but basically the same kind of vibe.

Unexpectedly good part to an otherwise bland and mediocre album. Really reminds me of the sound on ride the lightning they would incorporate later that was significantly better than the edgy thrash sound on this album.
@9ckr716 Жыл бұрын
Just because you've listened to it so much doesn't make it bland or mediocre dude. Take a break from listening to metal for a while and then listen to it and I can assure that you will be wondering what the hell you were thinking.
@emerealm3779 Жыл бұрын
@9CKR7 I'm not a brainless idiot who listens for the 'vibe' so your methodology won't work on me. The album sounds so similar I genuinely can't tell most of the songs apart and abuses the typical thrash trope of the time to the point almost every song on the album is a carbon copy of the formula. Phantom lord is the only song I would put above this as it tries something different but compared to master of puppets this album is horrible...
