''KIRK HAMMETT: James would show Cliff and me the riffs, and we'd build the songs from there. Some I'd already be familiar with. The main riff in ''Battery'', for instance: the first time I heard James play that was in England, on his acoustic guitar. We were watching THE YOUNG ONES on the BBC, and all of a sudden he started messing around with this sort of galloping rhythm. I said, ''Wow, that's cool''. And so when it came time to start learning stuff, I'd often hear a riff and say, ''Oh, okay. I know that one.""

This is why James Hetfield was on top of the music industry at an early age and is still the best metal band of all time! Precision Rhythm guitar work! He just keeps getting better! Can't wait to hear what they put together through the pandemic downtime. Been relearning Metallica's songs for the last year and a half and nothing but Metallica. I own a deli in Vermont. Between slicing and dicing, learning Metallica songs again, I am blowing out my right arm between that and down picking!! James and the boys have earned every penny!!

"On rhythm guitar, the proficiency and precision of James Hetfield left the producer [Flemming Rasmussen] spellbound. Each of the songs on Master Of Puppets features at least six identical guitar parts, overlaid so as to thicken the album’s sound. Each of these was recorded afresh, rather than overdubbing one part numerous times, as is the norm."
@chrisfaulkner383111 ай бұрын
It would be interesting to hear the album with only 1 original Rhythm guitar and the other overlaid rhythm’s removed. I wonder how much it would change the sound.

Hi . What amp and cab is James using ? Thanks
@PippPriss8 ай бұрын
Not sure, but I believe the amp is a Mesa Boogie Mark 2 IIC+. What's important is the parametric EQ they used in the console to shape the sound. There is a pedal which is kind of designed around that, the PMEQ Puppet Master Semi-Parametric EQ Aphex EQF-2. I think, cabinets would be 1960 Marshall cabinets, but no idea if they were loaded with Greenbacks or T-75. Most likely not Vintage 30s, as they were released 1986 and MoP was recorded in 1985, and released in 1986.
