earl has this quality where his verses never seem to start or end; you just sort of happen to encounter him at the beginning of a sentence and eventually he wanders out of earshot, still flowing

Earl is part of a totally new thing in rap imo. It’s expressionism instead of just description. 99% of rap music, even great rap, is written in full prose, as in, it’s full sentences tht are grammatically correct more or less, n follow linguistic conventions of “making sense”. Also most rap music up until now only uses stylistic exercises such as metaphor, similes, alliteration, punchlines; in order to come off as lyrically complex. There’s often not much deeper meaning to these exercises than that. Earl and a few others imo, are scrapping that for something more close to being romantic poets. Quotables and disconnected phrases that instead of making strict “sense”, and just being “lyrically complex”, are meant to evoke as much emotional potency, feeling and nostalgia as possible. Sometimes you’ll even catch a line, and it’s relatable and emotionally relevant to you before even fully understanding the full meaning of it. Almost everything he says is completely symbolic as opposed to descriptive. As I said, Like old poetry. I think these guys are pushing this concept in rap farther than anyone else prolly ever did.

I smoked with Billy back in 2019 in Northampton MA when he just released Hiding Places, really had no idea who he was cause my boy just put me onto em. Smoked after the show and asked em about Earl not knowing at all they knew each other and how much of an influence Billy has on em, dude was so peaceful and vibrant. Said Earl was 35 in a 25 year olds body and how he was lightyears from his peers. Billy if you see this bro, and Thebe hope yall are doin well and healthy love yall man be safe.

Sly told ya that everybody is a star
The only problem is some people haven't been put in the dipper
And poured back on the world [Verse 2: billy woods] Woke up on the West Coast for the first time in my life Drove cross country, but I remember those flights Genuflected when I heard the weed price White boys with the weed pipes Sunny days, sunny nights, mighty clouds of Northern Lights I was always bright, so no sooner than we touched down I'm seeing how we could get home and be right! The door panels already stashed
Illinois State Trooper just waiting for time and space
To cross our path [Interlude: David Lynch] It's daydreams that I love Where you might be controlling some of the thoughts The dream takes over, things are unraveling Before you without your intervention [Verse 3: E L U C I D] Walkin' four corners of God's country Group calisthenics in morning fog Catskill views, cats still yawnin' A few hundred miles from hot garbage and smog '89 fine, Air Max 90, first run, fresh lungs, sweet blood Light bugs spark blackness, back of the annex Past bedtime kissin', prayin' nobody catch us, zapped Baby powder homey sock if you fell asleep first Pummel body, la-di-da Batteries added, vicious cycle, hurt people, hurt people Days of summer carefree, haven't found an equal We all knew the Isleys before the Beatles Red moon over the rec room in direction of discovery Idle time wonderin' Thumbin' 70s Ebony mags, drippin' red ICEE on the pages Learned to swim in a pool where a boy drowned last year Wax in my ear I heard voices I couldn't make out in the deep end When I dipped my head under-come again? I was aware of Billy Woods for a while, but after many listens to Haram it makes me wanna hear more of his stuff. Takes a while to digest it all though. Top 10 rapper easily

This beat is transcendental. I’m having a borderline religious experience right now. My god just getting straight chills with the Earl and beat combo.

This song has a certain air of nostalgia that cant be touched. It feels timeless. Every time you hear it, you hear it for the first time again in some way. Armand Al and Earl really did something special here

For someone with my tastes, this track is the perfect collab. God I love the chill-ass vibe Alc went with. Obviously Earl was gonna rap well over that, but Woods and Elucid flowed beautifully on it too in their style. I'm grateful to the universe that this exists lol

Check out MIKE I’m still new to him myself but his music is chill like this and to my knowledge he’s part of the inspiration of Earl’s style from SRS going forward. I recommend checking out “Aww (Zaza)”, “Babyvillian (in our veins)”, and “No, No!” for starters
