PHARMACOLOGY; CEPHALOSPORINS, ERYTHROMYCINS, TETRACYCLINES, ANTI-FUNGAL ANTIBIOTICS

This is the continuation of the Lecture on Antibiotic Principles and the Penicillin Antibiotics.
In this Video Lecture, Professor Fink reviews the mechanisms of action, spectrum of action, uses, advantages & disadvantages of the Cephalosporins, Erythromycins, Tetracylines. Brief reference is made to metronidazole (Flagyl), the Sulfa Antibiotics (co-trimoxazole; Bactrim; Septra), the Quinolone Antibiotics (ciprofloxacin; Cipro), and the Antituberculosis Antibiotics (isoniazid; INH; rifampin; pyrazinamide). Professor Fink concludes with the Anti-Fungal Antibiotics (nystatin; Mycostatin; Mycolog) and then reviews the most common drugs used in the treatment of oral infectious and inflammatory diseases.

At very first, Thank you so much Sir for this genius lectur videos!! They helped me a whole lot to understand the chaos :D At second, a question: As AB are effecting the GI tract i got teached that lactobazillus is a the answer to the problem. So logically it seems to me that as a bakteria it will get affected too whilst taking it during AB therapy, whereas Doctors prescribe it to use during the AB therapy... so what is it?

Many antibiotics act on both "bad" bacteria, but also "good" bacteria -- like Lactobacillus. Taking a pro-biotic with "good" bacteria MIGHT be beneficial while taking an antibiotic; but it will certainly be MORE beneficial when finished taking the antibiotic.

Use of more broad-spectrum antibiotics can lead to secondary "super-infections" & increased risk of resistance (as explained in my video-lecture Professor Fink's Video Lecture on ANTIBIOTIC PRINCIPLES & the PENICILLINS: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3W8l41jeciBqNk ) One should use the most narrow-spectrum antibiotic that will "do the job".
