The endocrine system is a complex collection of hormone-producing glands that control basic body functions such as metabolism, growth and sexual development. Hypothalamus and pituitary gland are the key players in the endocrine system responsible for hormone regulation and production. This pharmacology lecture discusses the hormones secreted by the hypothalamus and the pituitary as well as mechanism of action of various drugs used in treatment of endocrine disorders. Drugs mentioned include: Thyroid hormone replacement agents - Levothyroxine, Liothyronine, Liotrix, Desiccated Natural Thyroid; Antithyroid agents - Propylthiouracil, Methimazole; GnRH agonists - Goserelin, Histrelin, Leuprolide, Nafarelin; GnRH antagonists - Degarelix, Elagolix, Ganirelix, Cetrorelix; Gonadotropin replacement agents - Menotropins, Urofollitropin, Follitropin, Lutropin, Choriogonadotropin alfa; Corticosteroids - Fludrocortisone, Hydrocortisone, Prednisone; Adrenal steroidogenesis inhibitors - Ketoconazole, Mitotane, Metyrapone; Recombinant human IGF-1 - Mecasermin; Somatostatin analogs - Octreotide, Lanreotide; Dopamine D2 receptor antagonist - Metoclopramide; Dopamine D2 receptor agonists - Bromocriptine, Cabergoline; Selective V2 receptor agonist - Desmopressin; Vasopressin receptor antagonists - Conivaptan, Tolvaptan.

How does nafarelin slow down the puberty in males and females? It is clear that it inhibits the pituitary gonadial axis..but simultaneously there is increase in the production of LH and FSH(which helps in development of ova and also helps in maturation). Anyone please clear my doubt.
