So Extraordinary to see such fine early footage of Pharoah, and Fun to see the comments of all us Pharoah lovers/listeners! I just discovered this and you all here in March 2024. I'll share my best tales of seeing and appreciating Pharoah six or seven times (starting with Carnegie Hall '73, on a bill with Alice Coltrane w/John McLaughin, and headliner Rahsaan Roland Kirk, then Village Vanguard '75, then... Grace Cathedral in SF!, Yoshi's I and II...)... another time, as I need to listen to this. This planet and people in the 'Pharoah spirit world' on it, during the present and recent centuries, are fortunate to have experienced his grace, depth and power. What a man! (And remember, drink lots of water like he did, to increase your chances of living as long as Pharoah did on this plane!)

There is other stuff I do not recognize tho. I think a lot of it is just improv. A website states that "Venus" from "Medley: Aum-Venus-Capricorn Rising" from his album Tauhid is in here somewhere, but I am not sure. Here is what the record of this recording says about it: Pharoah Sanders - "Live at Antibes Jazz Festival 1968" "Experimental jazz titan Pharoah Sanders made a lasting impact with his unorthodox approach to tenor saxophone. For this blistering performance, given at the Antibes Jazz Festival of 1968 and broadcast on French radio station WDR3, the quartet moves through various Sanders free-jazz workouts, taking in "Venus" from the Tauhid album (1967) and "The Creator Has A Master Plan" from Karma (1969) along the way, with the rhythm section holding down the fort as Sanders blows himself into the stratosphere." There are clips here from two concerts (July 20 & 22?) at the outdoor stage of the festival. With Pharoah Sanders/Lonnie Liston Smith/Norris 'Sirone' Jones/Mahjeed Shabazz. At 46:00 MC André Francis introduces the band for the second part, in addition there is a percussionist. Francis describes him as "un specialiste de bongo africaine, Jibril (sp?), un musicien qui a joué en Paris, avec, entre autre, Marion Brown". Anyone know who this percussionist is? There are, AFAICS, no traces of him anywhere on the net.

Is it correct that the tape repeats somewhere, the first 2 bass solos are the same with the same ending from pharoah. I think the tape restarts at 21:34. At 40:25 we finally get the applause that gets lost in the first transition. And then transitions at 46:00 onto a recording of a different date? And at the very end we get a 20 second snippit of Count Basie 😅.
