Beautiful fish ReeferGil. I have had same experience with Flame angels dying in quarantine. I think they tend to do better when they are introduced into a mature display tank without quarantine (still risky). Thank you for the videos.

Great video Gil and I can't wait to see what Tangs you get. The Melanurus looks awesome and may go on my list of fish for my system. The yellow back is very nice as well..lol.. I had the same difficulties trying to get a Flame Angel a while ago and in fact that fish taught me quarantining fish is very important because he started a Ich outbreak that caused me to go fallow for 8 weeks. Lesson learned.

I almost passed on the Malanarus, just because I had one for so long in the past system. I'm glad I stuck with him. Wrasses have never been my thing, but I'm really loving them now. I have my 3rd Flame, fingers crossed.

How did you sleep start that siphon on that line without priming it. Is it something in the food not agreeing with the flame angle. I was listing to reefing with o live stream and they spoke about the food we feed hurting our fish.
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Are you speaking of the airline tubing I used for acclimation? I manually siphoned it to start the drip. I hear you on the food, but both died within one or two days respectively. Unless they ate rat poison, bad food won't kill that quick. Thanks for sharing!

@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Haha, happens all the time to me. Depends on the size of your aquarium and I'm assuming you want reef safe fish. If you're in the same boat as I am in terms to the size of your system, then this is the list I'd use as a foundation to whatever other fish you may want.

Did the Blenny create that hole or get lucky to find one? I had a bicolor blenny once that literally chewed the rock away to create a little cave like yours has. Maybe I missed it in the video but is this purely observational QT? What is the plan if you see something on the fish?
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, that really cool what your blenny did. This guy just got lucky and found a spot in the rock. Yes, this is a non medicated quarantine tank. I have a few medications on hand in case I do need to medicate though.

Sorry for your losses and I know how that feels. I’ve been losing tangs due to stress and no qt. Can you please advise how you qt? Also if you have a video on how to and what’s best way to? I have copper power and Hanna tester handy ready to setup and was wondering if a 20l would be sufficient for qting fish. I will be more than likely doing another 20l as a frag qt but debating between 20l or 30br. Any if all help is greatly appreciated.

Hey RG - love the video - rainbow sherbert was the highlight ; ) LOL. Sorry about the flame angels. Are you treating for anything in the tank? Internal parasites are pretty common (I forget what article I read, or I would cite it here, but it was like 60-70% of fish have them). Prazipro is a good treatment and prophylactic for that, and pretty gentle on the fish. Sounds like the Flames were doomed from the beginning if they only lived a day or two in your tank though. I have seen some tank-raised flame angels, they pop up every once in a while (reefbuilders.com/2016/09/26/captive-bred-flame-angelfish/) and like most aquacultured fish, are more robust than their wild-caught counterparts. Might be a good option. Pricey, but in this case you are probably getting what you pay for. Hope the QT goes well!
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Hey Eco, some really great info you posted. I will check these guys out if I can't get my Flame to stay alive. Tank raised is the way to go and worth the extra cash. I'm not treating the water with any meds right now. Sounds like that article was pretty well researched though. Food for thought for sure.

How many wrasse can you have
@ReeferGil4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the size of your aquarium.
@heidisfishtank75436 жыл бұрын
Are you running copper or hyposalinity? I’ve heard angels are sensitive to copper so that could have been part of the equation. Then again wrasses are supposed to be too and they seem to be doing great! This tank is going to look incredible!
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Hey Heidi, hope all is well. Nope, no pre-medication here. Just an observation tank until I need to actually dose specific meds for specific illnesses or parasites.
@bobysize6 жыл бұрын
ReeferGil does observation works well for you Mr ReeferGil?
@captivebredcanada6 жыл бұрын
Did you freshwater dip the bodies to see if anything came off? It's probably not velvet since your other fish didn't die. I would suspect internal parasites. The problem if that is the case and the angels pooped in the tank it's possible the other fish will get it. The store may be able to give you insight too since it's unlikely it's only your 2 flames that died very quickly.
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
They better not have sold me a nuke fish like you described, lol. Their batch of Angles are alive and doing well. They did mention angles can be overly sensitive with changes, but who knows. It's all speculation at this point.

@ReeferGil4 жыл бұрын
Yes it was, I didn't realize that when I made the video. I post daily on Instagram if interested.
@Vdeez6 жыл бұрын
I'd be worried about a yellow coris and a melanarus together. Usually you only want one of that genus. Think long and hard about keeping the 6 line at all. They are known to terrorize other wrasses even after living with them for a while. They also are known to terrorize mandarins and leopards (ask me how I know). I will NEVER have a six line in a tank with any other wrasses again.
@ReeferGil6 жыл бұрын
Ug, I'm really hoping my six line grew up with a loving family and showed him the importance of respecting others. Lets just cross our fingers and hope this is a case of every fish has its own personality, because it will be next to impossible to get him out of the main display. With that said, Ill keep a closer eye on him and make sure hes not showing signs of aggression as a juvenile. I've never had one, so I take feedback like this seriously. Thanks for sharing Chad!
@Vdeez6 жыл бұрын
ReeferGil I had one with a mandarin for a year. They were fine together then all the sudden the six line was trying to kill the mandarin non stop.
