I agree with you Sir. Just to cope up with unemployment this PhD mandatory criteria has been introduced. PhD is a specialization but it should never be a criteria. Someone might be excellent in research but might not be good at teaching.

Instead of PhDs, they should rather consider guest faculty Teaching experiences by guest lecturers in colleges for Assistant Professor's post as part of its API score. Exploitation of guest lecturers across the country is another reason why higher education is rapidly deteriorating in India. I don't know why nobody talks about that.

higher education system of India is so rigid. it is very hard to get a job even after qualifying all eligibility tests and all other requirements. Phd should never be a minimum qualification.

Corruption issue aside, phd creates a culture of hyper specialisation that leaves an individual learner almost useless for anything outside their field of knowledge. This is a well-acknowledged backbone of the quit-lit movement in cultures outside India and is still not answered by academia today (which is always slow to catch up on the changing worldviews around us no surprise). PhD is a punch line in the actual job market. And all the academics who don’t acknowledge these shortcomings are either simply too attached to their thesis or don’t want to indulge differing opinions.

Now-a-days, getting PhD is not easy even after qualifying JRF. I, myself is an example. Most University faculties prefer students, with whom they have good bonhomie, even if they are not eligible enough. And in dedicated research institutes, there is tooth and nail competition for a single seat. After facing numerous humiliating rejections, I, a CSIR NET LS & JRF, GATE BS, WB SET qualified candidate, now preparing for government jobs, after acquiring B.Ed.
