So now you know about Writing with Zotero. Did you know that Zotero is also the PERFECT tool for your Academic Reading and Literature Searching? How to Read Journal Articles Quickly and Effectively (6K Sub Recap): kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooi1fK1vrauDrsk Perform a Literature Review Without Getting Lost (ft. PubMed): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYeZlaOqobNqhbs How to Cross-Reference the Literature with OneNote + Zotero: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXuteoieotKHpLM&t Followup: Hi guys, so Paul saw my video and share more tips with me via email, please take notes! "You can actually check the references (formatting etc) directly in the Zotero manager. If you correct them there then they will always be correct when you cite them on a paper. The ability to add rich text to titles was introduced back in 2012: www.zotero.org/support/kb/rich_text_bibliography You just use HTML tags in Zotero and it will convert them when you add the citation."

I once tried Mendeley and gave up on these reference tools. After watching your video, I have decided to install Zotero. Thank you so much for the video.

Great video! I have been using Zotero and a librarian recommended Endnote. Your comment on worrying about changing to another university and still having access sealed the deal for me.

Yay, welcome on board to Team Zotero. Just kidding, any tools that you feel most confident should be a fine choice :) Remember, you can always export your library into BibTex format from Zotero and import again to Endnote (or Mendeley) in case your future University/Employer has a strong preference :)

That 3-second pause was so annoying it passed the message. I’m not complaining, it was a good way to make your point. Imagine facing it all the time!

Thank you for the feedback, this is an older video so my video editing sense was still developing. I also have mixed feedback on this. There are suggestions that I should keep my video organized by chapter so it is easier to browse with a timestamp, but I understand if someone wants to watch the whole video in one go it could be distracting. Be assured that I have made the transitioning scene shorter and less frequent in my recent videos. Anyways, I hope you will find my other writing tip videos helpful. Good luck with your research!

@@PhDCoffeeTime I couldn't express myself correctly. I loved that three-second pause. You said you had to wait three seconds for a reference to show in the document. People would think "just 3? No big deal" But you added that pause, it became very clear that waiting that much every time would be annoying as hell. I was watching the video in 2x, I reduced back to 1x and showed it to my wife because it was clever. And we laughed

Thank you for telling your story about transitioning to Zotero from Endnote. Will you please share how you did it? I use Endnote, and I want to transition to Zotero, but I have over 500 articles. How do I do it? I tried using the import button from Zotero, but it returned an error that it didn't recognize the format. Please advise.

but you can't directly read the papers in zotero right? when I click on the paper, it would open to another pdf reader. I use mendeley and I always downloaded the pdf files then imported to mendeley.
@PhDCoffeeTime3 жыл бұрын
No, Zotero works like a "bookmark" for paper citation, at least that's how I have been using it. Can you read PDF files on Mendeley?
@JibHyourinmaru3 жыл бұрын
@@PhDCoffeeTime yeah Mendeley has a built-in PDF Reader. but I migrated to Zotero yesterday! because Mendeley not working well nowadays and they recently shut down their android app which a bummer, they going backward. It was an easy process importing into Zotero. and now Zotero beta has a built-in PDF Reader, so it's great! all can be annotate inside Zotero.

What type of reference style that is good for helping the writing more easily? I mean the author followed by the publication time right?
@PhDCoffeeTime4 жыл бұрын
I use Author-date because it is easier to check if I am cite the right paper. With Zotero, changing the reference style is simple, so I only do so at very last stage before submitting the paper.

Thanks for the video! How do you attach supplementary materials to the main papers on Zotero?
@PhDCoffeeTime4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, Thanks for your question! Personally, I never attach documents in Zotero because in my past experience with Endnote attachments can slow down the speed of in-text citation. I have a file naming system that helps me locate the PDF and supplementary files easily (This video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWiQhIOBbbWYrrs), e.g. Chan_2016_method_paper.pdf However, if you want to learn more about attaching files in Zotero, they have the instructions here: www.zotero.org/support/attaching_files

Do you have an easier way to do references in power point? Zotero or other citation manager doesn't work in Microsoft powerpoint so I always do manually which is very tedious
@PhDCoffeeTime3 жыл бұрын
I am not aware of any software for references in PPT, I personally do this manually. Check out this PubMed video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYeZlaOqobNqhbs) where I have shown how to use excel sheet to keep a list of references from Zotero in a more streamlined way.
@hjf3022 Жыл бұрын
I know you asked this a long time ago, but if anyone else is wondering. The easiest way I've found is to just do the citations in Microsoft word with whatever citation manager you use, then just copy and paste into Powerpoint.

Yes, that's exactly why I don't attach PDF on Zotero. I use a file organization system as explained in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWiQhIOBbbWYrrs However, it seems one of my viewers just discovered a way to change the storage settings of Zotero so that files can be directly stored on Google Drive (read more from the other comments left on this video). If your insitution has unlimited Google storage this could be a smart choice.
