Just wanted to point out that part of the reason Cyndi Lauper appeared on The Super Show was simply because Captain Lou collabed with her in various WWE stints. The entire short was one big joke about how Mario was a fan of Captain Lou (himself) and Cyndi thought Lou had 'gone for good' when he had just gone out to buy 'good fried chicken' for their picnic. The segment ends with Mario 'going out to look' for Lou, only for Lou to appear as himself and resolve everything, Luigi commenting that he actually got to see Captain Lou. Also, fun fact; Oogtar and Toad are played by the same person. John Stocker...who was also the voice of Mouser and various other characters in all three of the DiC Mario cartoons. And I'm with you on Oogtar vs Toad. Toad had his moment but I still legit like Toad and he has the home field advantage of actually being apart of the series and many of the silly things he did you could actually imagine him doing being...well, that's because they were Toad-like. Oogtar was just annoying as fuck and there was no real reason for them to be in SWM considering that Yoshi was already there as the 'kid' of the group. I don't think there's a single episode of SMW where Oogtar does anything that is helpful or even funny yet I can think of a ton of things that Toad did both both TSMBSS and AoSMB3 that at least made me laugh.

I think it might've been one of those very 90's jokes where they reference the celebrity that plays a main character as if they're a separate person, like how occasionally someone on Baywatch would bring up David Hasselhoff as an in-universe celebrity separate from the character of Mitch. Then again, this is the show that used licensed music all the time in both its cartoon and live action sequences, and Captain Lou dropped a muttered f-bomb in the first episode, so it's very likely they just didn't give a shit. And it was still better than the Super Mario World show.

Cyndi and Captain Lou were collabing at the time with the WWE and the segment was one big joke around that. Cyndi thought that Captain Lou had run away so she asked the Marios for help since she knows that Mario is 'Lou's biggest fan'. In the end, Mario goes out to hang out more missing posters and BY THE POWER OF CUTTING FOOTAGE, Captain Lou shows up (as himself) and corrects Cyndi since he wasn't 'gone for good' but 'gone for good fried chicken'. The two then leave with Luigi commenting that he got to meet Captain Lou.
