A great video ! About 49 years ago, my parents and my little sister, 10 years old at the time went to that old cabin on the Pitchfork with Bob Jacob, then district US Forest Service district ranger for that area along with Harry Jensen, ranch manager for the Pitchfork. Bob and his wife Linda and Harry spent several nights in the cabin while myself and mom and dad and my sister drove dads Land Rover back and forth every morning and night to stay near Sunshine reservoir in dads motorhome. We were hunting elk on horseback and dad got one near the Wood River. Such wonderful memories your video brought back to me !!! Thank you !!!

Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad the video brought back some great memories for you. Another video that covers some of the Wood River area is our video, "Colors of the Shoshone". It may bring back some memories too!

The history in your post gives life to the location for me. So often we find cabins and wonder what stories can be told about them. Thank you for sharing your memories with us. - Melissa

Elaine really wanted to see the bears up close but I’m pretty sure she would have changed her mind if that had happened. 😂 We seem to find plenty of bear signs, especially on the western side of the Big Horn Basin.

Love your videos, grateful that you share your adventures. If summer comes and you're ever up in Montana (Park/Sweet Grass County), it would be a hoot to take you up to an old mountain mine in the area. Remote, beautiful views, Jeep trail, what's better?! 😊👍 Looking forward to your future vids.

Glad you like the videos! Thanks for watching. We might have to take you up on that offer. That is an area none of us really have been to and I'm sure there are some awesome trails and historic areas like mines and such. We will keep it in mind! Thank you!

@@AuthorMelissaCook Hiya Melissa! Are you referring to the trip to the old gold mine here in my neck of the woods? With the late snows this year, I'm even a bit wary of late July...elevation + timber-shaded roads. I have a trade show to attend the weekend of Aug 13/14, but am otherwise open. Let me know what works with your crew and we'll make it work - Elgin has my email. :) Best from MT! (Edit - didn't realize your message was a reply to the invite thread, apologies. I can go up earlier in July for a status check on the road if that helps set a date.)

We missed the trip this year. Elaine likes to see the bears even though she is afraid of them. I like to see the bear signs. The area is gorgeous, but it isn't easy to climb around it. Please be careful not to get into a situation where you must climb a lot to return to your rig. Due to my weak lungs, I couldn't have made it back without Elgin's help. Thanks for watching and joining us for the ride.

the poor horses out there in that coral..it is bad enough that they had to endure the Hail, but what about Grizzly Bears?…and the cattle seen on the way back down. Carry a Shotgun with ya next time with Slugs. 😊

Yes! There are a ton of bears up there and a man was almost killed by one last summer. Dan is pretty handy with his gun on his chest. Elgin carries one on his hip. Elaine and I have Glocks but I doubt they will save us; they will just upset the bears. Haha - Thanks for watching!
