Isn't it sad? They actually are amazed that people play their own instruments, write their own music and sing live without autotune. It's not their fault, it's the fault of the music industry. Watching these reactions gives me chills

I was at this concert in 1981. I was a blown away teenager then and am still blown away by Journey and Steve Perry's voice. Argueably one of the greatest singers of all time. Little did I know that this concert, recorded 100% LIVE, would go down as one of the greatest Steve Perry performances of his career. Take in the greatness of Journey. All musicians are in prime form. Thanks for the reaction.

Your not kidding Tony, I miss music, performers playing an instrument, vocals, etc. Now, except for country music, there are no musicians anymore just someone performing up front, with background music playing, that’s not music to me. But just 1 persons opinion, though I do miss bands/individuals really playing an instruments and really enjoying what they do!! Thanks for bringing that up, you are so right!!!!

@@kimee910 You are so RIGHT!!! And lets just avoid the so-called "singers", of today, that run their voice thru a computer, even when "live" , they run their voices thru "AutoTune", to Pitch-correct their god-awful voices, and no one can sing like this, anymore!!! I miss Steve, and David C., and Elvis, and John Denver, and all magnificent singers that we used to have. I wish I had a time machine!!! I loved your touching comment!!!

Oh God Judy, yes miss Elvis so much too!! A performer, singer, charisma, playing his guitar, and doing up on stage what only Elvis can do!!! Made you happy and so impressed that all that is happening from one person with so much talent, it can’t & won’t be duplicated again. As for Steve Perry, I was 11 yrs old when “Don’t stop Believin’” was released, and even at that age, I was memorized that vocals like that could come out of human being. He amazed me then, and even more now that I’m older and realize that a talent like his comes along once in a lifetime. He will always be my favorite singer of all times!! A man with a 6 Octive range, unbelievable!!! Thank you for the very nice compliment Judy😊!!!

@@dawndipierro9557, I would have killed to be in the front row! I saw them later in this tour in Portland, and it’s one of my all-time favorite concerts ever. (ironically, I DO have front row seats to see them and Def Leppard in Portland in September! I was all about those two bands back in the early 80’s. I saw them both just two weeks apart in ‘83…and if I’d had these seats to see them together back then on the same night, I would have lost my ever-lovin 19 year-old mind! And yes, I know Steve Perry won’t be there this time, but after about 20 years, I’ve reached the “acceptance” stage in my grief about that, LOL! Plus my Def Leppard boys will be closing that night, so it won’t be bittersweet for long…just SWEET!) 🎸

Neal Schon, Steve Perry, and Jonathon Cain wrote this song together about Neal Schon's life at home as a youngin'! I watched a professional voice coach about crap her pants because she thought Steve Perry doing that high note was a guitar or synthesizer! She made me laugh...we had to tell her to go see the live version! Not only that I've seen Journey twice in the 1980s at McNichols Sports Arena and his voice is called THE VOICE for a reason.

I'm always blown away at his voice live too even after all these years, so don't feel lonesome. Then I think about how he sang like this for 2-3 hours straight. 😯 I should've found myself a really good singer to settle down with. I would just ask them to sing to me if I was in a bad mood hahaha! I just found your channel tonight and don't know how I missed it out all this time, but I love how you do things here and your reactions. I would love it if you did more Clapton, U2, and honestly, checked out the Bee Gees. They aren't your or my kind of music, but oh my stars could they sing. They had perfect pitch all three of them, and their harmonies were insane. They have a reputation with those who don't know them of doing just disco. However, they started when they were children and had some really nice R&B stuff in the 60s and 70s pre-disco. They couldn't read music but wrote over 1000 songs. Jeff Lynne of ELO can't read music either and is a phenomenal songwriter. I guess that was where I went wrong: learning to read music. 🤣

I am thankful to my friend who talked me into going to this show with him back in 1981 at The Summit, and I am thankful to MTV for documenting the show(s) and eventually making the DVD available so I don't have to rely just on my memory of how good it was. This was my second concert ever, after Queen '80. My opinion is Queen put on the superior show, but Steve Perry, in a live show, had far superior vocals. No compromises. He either did it just like the record, or if he added it was even more accomplished. He's up there with the best rock singers ever.

Too many voices of that era to list actually. Steve was the GOAT, but with bands like Foreigner, Kansas, Styx etc, it was a time when music was to each his own. Every artist had its own original sound and I'm not talking just vocally, I'm talking instrumentally as well. One lick from Eddie Van Halen's guitar and you knew who it was instantly. Singers, guitarist, keyboardists, drummers, even bass players all had their own sound which culminated to each of their respected bands having their own sound. The most phenomenal decade ever in my opinion. Cookie cutter bands of today that all share the same vocalist and drummer and guitarist, there's nothing to differentiate them and the singers can't sing their way out of a wet paper bag. I'm 58 and I'm certainly not opposed to today's music. I have evolved over the years with the music. There are many bands that I actually do like, some of which I like a lot. But to compare rock of today to rock back in the '70s and early '80s, there's just no comparison.

Everyone in the group was stellar in this concert but especially in this song. A work of art and an emotional ride.

To this day, Jon Cain still talks about how Steve recorded this song in ONE take!. Do the entire live album. The band was on fire! To see them having pure fun, watch Dead or Alive.

Watch this whole show. I saw them the following year on the Frontiers tour in Atlanta and am still blown away by Perry's vocal range and the ease at which he sang. I've seen many bands and singers over the years, but none can top what I saw in the ATL that night.

You must have seen them early on in the tour cuz I saw that same tour. Steve's vocals seemed worn out and the performance just wasn't there unfortunately! On the other hand, Bryan Adams warmed up for them for his Cuts Like A Knife album and he blew Journey away in a big way!!

@@pollynicklas5220 that's okay, I have a hard time remembering who was where when. I've seen Billy Squier twice, once as the main act in '81 at Brendan Byrne Arena and as the opening act for Queen at Madison Square Garden in '82. Forgot the first concert.

Just do the whole concert. I have the dvd to this concert and watched it multiple times. Open Arms from this is my favorite. The song Escape is also good. Always thought that one is very underrated. Steve is just an incredibly amazing talent. It's like he was sent to us from the angels 😇 💕

He was. And the overall musicianship is stunning. Then the ending with Perry simply vocalizing. Gah! I wore the tape out in a couple of months. The entire album is unbelievable. Then *this* played. Words really don't suffice.

Oooh, I have been waiting for this one! This whole concert is amazing. Thank you so much for taking your time to watch. This wasn't a single but is definitely a fan favorite. Steve recorded the studio version of this song in one take. Unbeliveable. Steve does admit that this is vocally one of his hardest songs. Jonathan Cain's piano bit in the end is awesome and also gave Steve an opportunity to catch his breath.
