I saw them 2 weeks before the Houston concert. I saw them in 79’ a couple times but this particular show’s pace was incredible. On par with professional athletes. When I heard they recorded Houston, I knew then why the pace was quicker...they had to get all the songs into a certain timeline. I saw numerous rock bands in the late 79’s and 80’s and Journey was my all time favorite. Of late, I saw RUSH before they retired and their technical musicianship was par to none. Yes, that indeed was emotional for me to watch. Consider this was before computers invaded our everyday life, before you could cheat your way through a music performance with pitch correction and backing tracks. That sound you heard was exactly what those 5 people, with their voices, hands, feet and fingers created. Nothing they did there was easy to do, including singing and playing an instrument at the same time, yet they made it look easy. Takes years to be able to do that! At that point in their careers, they were probably thrilled to hit that stage night after night, to smack people in the faces with the sound they created.
@scotabot78264 жыл бұрын

I remember vividly buying this album the summer it came out back in 81, I had just finished 8th grade and was heading to high school later that year and Journey literally exploded into the 80's with this album. The iconic Don't Stop Believing, "just a small town girl, living in a lonely world, she took the midnight train to anywhere", and Open Arms was in heavy rotation on the radio; but I loved the deeper tracks on this album that included Mother, Father and my favorite Still They Ride. Tina Reid I'm so jealous! I love Journey! What was your favorite song they sang?

The best live performing album or CD, as we call it today, is Captured. You will definitely enjoy that one vocally, and Schon rips on the guitar as always ;) lol. Oh yes, and on that CD, you will love Dixie Highway for sure ;)

Steve Perry is blessed with the gift of a golden voice ! You should listen to " People Are Places " When Steve , Greg Rolie & Neil Schon all trade leads.

@@Jihavoh777 Yes it definitely has the Roy Thomas Baker Production & yes they pulled it off live & that would probably be what she would react to. People & Places !

I just love your reactions, and your commentary, from a great singer's perspective!! Just Amazing!!! and VERY educational and inspiring for me! You are so fun, funny, and educational, all at the same time! Steve Perry is Stunning, and the most passionate singer, emotional, subtle, sexy, rich, beautiful tones, etc., etc!!! I love Steve Perry, so sad when he left the band, There is no more Journey, without him. Journey is ended, as far as I'm concerned. And Jonathan Cain, the keyboardest, also helped write most of Steve's greatest songs with the band!!! In fact, at the very end of this song, Mother, Father--Jonathan Cain does a magnificent, spotaneous, piano solo, that was cut off here. I still have luscious Steve Perry Poster on my wall, at home!!! What an incredibly gorgeous voice, and man, to match!!!! So exciting to watch!!!
