But you missed a point, when the chain gets tight under compression, the weakest part gets affected first it could be the chain links themselves chain might break at its weakest link or the rear wheel bearing might get damaged if the wheel bearing is weak or the engine bearings as you mentioned. All 3 might also get damaged at the same time even this is possible.
