Beware of outhouses up north, especially in spring. Black bears are known to hibernate in them! Carcross is approx 100 miles from Skagway, AK. You can drive the Klondike Hwy or take the Yukon/White Pass RR (passenger only). This is a narrow gauge track, built during gold rush era (1899). Skagway is packed w/tourists each summer due to cruise ships. Back in Carcross - this town is where Native Yukoners Skookum Jim, Tagish Charlie, & Kate Carmacks were from. This trio first to find gold in Bonanza Creek outside Dawson City.

hikers use diluted vinegar, its a cheap disinfectant. and nice way to clean stuff, put in a spray bottle, and give your plate a few sprays and wipe with paper towel. save the wetwipes for washing your butt and face lol :)

Totally agree with the outhouse fear. I'm in Australia and worry about snakes and spiders biting my nether regions. Nobody wants to die on the outhouse.

When I was a Boy Scout many years ago and we went to the local permanent campground for a week, we had to use an outhouse and a separate marine funnel stuck in a pipe in the ground. The outhouse we were told was Aunt Tilly and the other, appropriately enough, was Uncle Funnel, and served as our urinal. They were trying to keep the seat in the outhouse dry by directing us to use the funnel for the appropriate purpose. Now, regarding the outhouse, the joke always was that someone had once put a microphone and speaker in the outhouse so that when a user arrived and perched themselves in the appropriate place, a voice from the speaker could announce, “Hey, don’t drop that thing, I’m painting down here.“ 😂

The state of Maine in the USA has a place called the Desert of Maine, over near Freeport, ME. It was created in the 1800s when the farmers plowed the area. The top soil wasn't very deep. Underneath the top soil was sand left behind by melting glaciers from the last ice age. Enjoy your trip.

We have an outhouse at our cabin in Northern Wisconsin. Once at Thanksgiving, we drove 5 hrs to get there. The first thing I did was run down there to pee. Anyway, I peed on a family of red squirrels. For the rest of the week, they tried to pee on me! The noise they made trying to get out was very scary 😨 😳
