I read that once he came to Philly, he added that split-changeup to his arsenal and his just started overwhelming hitters all over again. I have to wonder what his career would've been like if he had found that pitch earlier in his career.
@redbearmedia10 жыл бұрын
If he would of added it in earlier it would of been rougher.. Cause starting out you gotta focus on it and work with it.. After a few years batters would know what was going on. But with going to Philly for 2yrs.. (I think) it would of taken longer to get the focus of the batters.. But that's what I'm thinking..

We live in eastern PA but since my mother is from Chicago, we used to go quite often to visit. First by train, then prop plane. The FIRST game I ever saw was at Wrigley Field and it was a no hitter by Ferguson Jenkins. The one thing I remember so well was my father (OBM) being so disappointed because HE DID NOT HAVE A SINGLE STRIKE OUT and he only maintained his no hitter because of the MANY great defensive plays. But hey, for my first game not bad seeing a no-hitter.
@chucknight8 жыл бұрын
That's the beauty of baseball! It's well and truly a team sport, especially when we're talking no hitters and perfect games. The pitcher has to be on point for sure, but the rest of the team has to be up to scratch as well.
@lazerlazer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding. I have a short story to tell you. Believe it or not, between the 9th and 10th grades, a recently retired Saint Louis Cardinals pitching coach decided he would spend his time watching a group of kids (over 200) where we lived. It was a much more serious as well as organized ball for "Teeners" and it was called Big Leagues'. He talked to my father because he thought I had a lot of potential. Around this time (of course) I developed a serious phobia of getting hit in the face with the ball off a bat. I guess I was ahead of my time because in just the last thee years, I have seen a ton of MLB pictures drop like a piece of lead after being hit. They can usually shake it off though.
@chucknight8 жыл бұрын
There's a video somewhere on KZbin that's a compilation of people getting hit and it's absolutely terrifying. But thankfully, as you said, most are able to shake it off! That's really cool though! And too bad you developed this phobia...maybe we all could have been watching clips of you on MLB's channel instead haha

This is beautiful. So many close plays. A half a foot more one way and it's a hit. Hanley is a half a foot quicker and he gets an infield hit. The ump decides to call a borderline 3-2 pitch a ball and it's gone. This is why baseball is the best sport in the world.
