well he kind of does get enough praise, the game commentators called it the best play they've ever seen in the circumstances. That's pretty high praise. what else constitutes "enough praise". fact is, it is the best play i've ever seen in such a game and guessing most think likewise but the game does belong to buehrle for his 9 innings performance!

Even though it didn't save a perfect game in the 7th game of the 1955 World Series, Sandy Amoros made an amazing catch off New York's Yogi Berra to preserve Johnny Podres shutout, giving the Dodgers their first and only World Series title while based in Brooklyn.

Not a White Sox fan, but this is one of the best games ever called by any announcer. My favorite part is that Hawk is completely silent during the final at bat until the ground ball, just to let the magnitude of the moment sink in. And of course, his call of the final out is perfect. Say what you will about Hawk. But I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t brilliant calling this game.

There is (or at least was) some brief footage of the Wise catch from someone's cell phone in the upper deck along the left field line. It's amazing to hear "Oh no!" so loudly from many of the fans nearby, only to have that replaced by screams of joy a second later.

I think 2:43 to 2:55 shows you why Buehrle was such an effective pitcher despite not having high 90s heat. After falling behind 3-1, and arguably getting squeezed on the 3rd ball call he spots a cutter on the corner at 89 mph, then an 82 mph change out of the same arm angle in the same location. Filthy as it comes imo. Also, both pitches thrown within 11 seconds of one another. I really hope he gets into the hall, as there won't be too many guys like him in the future

@@JasonEmerson711 I don't think he has enough of the traditional stats or advanced stats that voters like. He's probably below the Hall standard, but he wouldn't be the worst starting pitcher. He's got 60 WAR, which would be better than about 25 starting pitchers in the Hall. Having a WS ring and two no-hitters will help his cause, since only 25 pitchers have thrown multiple no-nos. If he got in, it'd probably wouldn't be through the standard BBWAA ballot, but rather the Eras Committee, like how Harold Baines got in.

I was incredibly fortunate to unexpectedly have that day off of work and be able to attend that game. My seat was out in the center field section near where Wise made the catch- in fact, I couldn't see the catch as it was made with several rows of fans standing in anticipation in front of me. Totally had to go with the silence and the subsequent roar to confirm the incredible catch was made. As the chance of a perfect game grew, every pitch was pure tension, every time Buehrle got behind a hitter was utter suspense. The greatest live sports moment of my life.

What's lost in this is the "magical cure" for pace of play. That second at-bat, that went to a full count, took 56 seconds. I've seen games with Sergio Romo and Pedro Baez taking that much time to throw fewer than 2 pitches. And that's when the bases are EMPTY.

I had just got home from work on this day. I turned on the game just for background noise and instantly realized something special was happening. I went from being exhausted from work to having the exuberance of a child. I jumped up and down like a maniac when Wise made that incredible catch. What a game, what a performance from Buehrle and the players on the field doing their part to protect his piece of history.

I was there with my dad! Most amazing sports moment I’ve witnessed in person. I’ve never heard the air get taken out of a stadium like that as Wise was running to make that amazing catch! Mark didn’t need any pitch clock! Haha. Yes!!!!

Buehrle was a pro’s pro. He did not mess around. Got ball, threw ball. And went after ‘em on every pitch. And for a guy who depended so much on rhythm, I remember hoping that all of the hullabaloo after the Wise play didn’t take him out of his rhythm. Went 3-1 on the next batter but rebounded in true Buehrle form.

The only Sox game I ever went to was the day before this. I’m not complaining because it was a 1-run game that came down to the last pitch. It was also the only game I have ever seen with an inside the park home run.

For a random game in July, there were quite a few moments there to hold your breath in this ninth inning: Kapler's long fly out and Wise catch, a couple of pitches with a 3-ball count that could end the perfecto, and then the final out of the game.

This perfect game and Big Time Timmy Jim’s no hitters I think are the most fun pitching performances to watch. This game has probably the greatest catch in any perfect game

i was there for this game with my sisters and one of my cousins! i was also there when he had a no hitter game too! one of the best ever!

Dwayne Wise with his first career save. This was the best perfect game recorded on film.
