I enjoy Phil Anselmo interviews whenever I get the opportunity to listen to them. They are so informative, raw, honest and dare I say... humble. This man has grown immensely in his knowledge and wisdom learned throughout his years of experience. When Phil speaks, one should listen.

Man, I am so lucky I grew up in a day and age where I got to experience Panera's music including seeing them live when I was 16. Like Phil said, some people never got to experience it and I am grateful I did.

Phil Anselmo's a good man with a good heart he just has his demons and its good to see that for the most part he seems to be winning the battle with them these days. I think real Pantera fans would love to see Phil, Rex and Vinnie Paul on stage together again but in their hearts there's no denying the sadness that Dime's absence from that stage would bring.

Dimebag had to opportunity back in the day, before he was famous to join Megadeth...He said, only way I'll join is if my brother Vinnie can come too. Dave said they already had a drummer, so Dimebag passed. If Vinnie wants to never do Pantera again, No Dimebag, no Pantera...I can understand that.

I was at the front of the crowd at the Pantera Donnington gig back in '94. It was intense and absolutely fucking awesome - still have great memories. The crowd were so packed in, that if you tried to jump in the air, your feet would take a while to reach the ground again, and if you fell to the ground, you were never getting back up again.

Great interview. Phil has paid his dues for any (if any) past transgressions. I miss Pantera. Saw them 6 times throughout their day in So-Cen-Tex and no one could rip a roof off the place like Pantera (No disrespect to others). The only person I could legitimately say could fill the void on stage is Zakk. Zakk can play they songs with respect, and he loved Dime.

I honestly feel terrible for this dude when it comes to the entire Dimebag and Vinny Paul situation. I mean, he said some dumb shit back in the day when Pantera was going through turmoil but there's no way he could have ever known what was going to happen to Dime. Now he's in a situation where he can't make that right at all, even though he continues trying to reach out to Vinny.

D'Artangan Oswald lol, I think it's wrong what the Abbott family did to Phil after Dimes death. Lets face it, if it wasn't for Phils amazing voice and stage presence they would never have gotten as far as they did I don't care what anyone says. They didn't even allow him at the funeral which is bullshit.
@dartanganoswald1775
@dartanganoswald1775 9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I personally didn't agree with that decision, and again I can't say this with any kind of certainty, because I didn't know the guy personally, but I don't think Dime would have wanted things handled that way. I also don't think he'd want 3 of the most important people in his life (Rex, Vinny, and Phil) to not still be brothers like they were during all the good times they had together. Dime seems like he was way too laid back and mellow to hold a grudge against Phil for over a decade. I think if he had a way to speak now that he'd tell Vinny to let it go, and tell everyone that tries to blame Phil for his murder that it wasn't Phil's fault and that he loves and forgives Phil for all the bullshit that happened. I could be totally wrong, but that's just the kind of guy I think Dime was. I've never seen any other musicians who had anything bad to say about him (other than Phil during some of his dumbass phase interviews).

I seriously doubt that Phil will ever read this, but I thought I'd share it anyway. I started college two years ago, I met one of my best friends on the first day because he and I both happened to wear Pantera shirts to a comedy show. Here's two wide-eyed kids straight out of highschool, we don't know anyone and we haven't made any friends yet, and neither of us are old enough to have even thought about seeing Pantera live. Yet we bonded over a band that broke up before we were 12. That's pretty fucking cool if you ask me.

It seems that unless you truly LIVED the experience of a live PanterA show back in the 90's. and experienced the raw, unfiltered, power and sheer goose bump inducing AWE that they inspired in the average metal fan on the floor at the time.....you just simply DONT GET IT, you cant get...and never will. PanterA IS LEGEND. They are forever in my humble opinion the most badass metal band in history. The combination of Swagger, Ferocity and Coolness that Phil exuded on stage mixed with the Wizardry of the one and only Dimebag Darrell's unique style simply put - those four dudes made magic. This is why a "reunion" of PanterA should never, EVER happen! It would be sacrilege for any other guitarist to go on stage with Phil, Rex and Vinnie and play those songs. SACRILEGE. May he drink black toothed grins in heaven all day long, and smoke stanky green buds until he smiles..... R.I.P. Dime.

it was his brother that died, they did everything together all there lifes, he'll never fully recover & Phil talked so much shit about them until the day Dime died & even afterwards. @GoatOfTheMountains
@GoatOfTheMountains 10 жыл бұрын
ShockMe1994 It's not as if I said anything bad about Vinnie, just that he's the only one stopping a reunion from happening. Don't really see how that constitutes "badgering." I do think it would be better if he let the anger go and forgave Phil. Phil admits that he was fucked up. He even said, "I have no excuse, I was a junkie" to Rita, who in turn actually forgave him. Regardless of what Phil said, he's not the one who pulled the trigger.

endocry Maybe you've never seen the Behind The Music where VP says he blames Phil for his brother being shot. Vinnie is childish and treats people like shit, both Rex and Dime's ol' lady have both said so. VP is an alcoholic, an alcohol addict, you'd think he could empathize with his brother Phil falling victim to the needle FIFTEEN YEARS AGO and celebrate him finding his way out of the heroin trap. Dime must be rolling over in his grave.

Vinnie, Rex, Phil, and put Zakk Wylde on guitar. Too bad Vinnie can't get over his grudge against Phil. I don't really care for Zakk's playing because of his excessive use of pinch harmonics but he is good and would hopefully tone it down with it being a tribute and not his own songs/solos, especially since he was good friends with Dime

Nikki Stitch I guess I just don't understand Vinnie's point of view. Any show that would happen would likely be a tribute to Dime, a sign of respect. As long as it was a one-off and they didn't try to replace Dime and release some new material calling it Pantera. That is the point at which it could become disrespectful.

Who knows what this guy has been through and seriously years (decades) of touring with metal bands especially one like "Pantera" will definitely take a roll on your body..or so so I would imagine. I have met quite a few "Metal" musicians and for some reason it seems as if in most cases the lead singer had the roughest deal. All that screaming and putting on a show I would imagine takes much more energy than say a guitar player...even a drummer. Top it off with lots and lots of hard alcohol (Crown Royal seems to be the most popular with metal musicians followed by shack Daniels)...drinking tons of this before and after a show...then snort a few lines of coke just to wake up and be able to put on another show yes this is a very hard life. I cannot speak for myself really as I have never lived this kind of life...but really I cannot understand why most of these "Metal" bands cannot love what they do without the drugs and alcohol is beyond me. I would think the fans cheering would be more than enough to stimulate me and to get my energy rolling as opposed to hard drugs to achieve that feeling.

I don't want a Pantera reunion necessarily. Maybe a tribute concert to be filmed for a DVD (little closure for us fans). Possibly have other famous bands play Pantera songs. Then end the night with a reunion set featuring the surviving 3 with a revolving door of of guitar players Dime looked up to, especially EVH! And then get Zakk to end the night. I don't think Pantera fans ever got the closure we needed!!!!

I think in my heart of hearts. I think we will see Pantera reunion. The only person we are waiting on is Vinny. and as age happens we get softer. And I know he is aching to see his fellow brothers that is still alive. Zakk Wylde is down for the guitar he has said it. Phil wants it vinny wants it red wants it. Just have to get them in the same area. and bash it out hug it out love it out. I think people we are getting close. THE FANS WANT IT you have 40 year olds down to 20 years olds wanting to see their band get back together. If you get together the fans will get together. This can either go good. Or really really good.

can't help but think... just for one second... I'd rather hear Dime Bag, give a sad song story about this singer, that cannot perform nowhere near "back in the day" as he did, how he misses him... how he moved on... how much he is dearly missed... how kick ass his new "stuff" and new "people" are... "...a man has got to know, his limitations.." Clint Eastwood

It's been a decade. Vinnie should let go of his resentments towards Phil and let him speak heart to heart with him. Denying him that is probably taking a toll on Phil.

dickrobot don't know... my mom died when I was 5... don't think I will just sink it... much less let them around "envolved" just float away absolved... per say... not say he's envolved but.... hey you're pretty free with just forgetting THE WORLDS most important "feelings" in those peoples lives... just saying...

Phil plain out rules. He's been there, done it all and lived to tell about it. A lot of people seem to dislike Phil because he supposedly broke up Pantera, but honestly I think that's not even close to what he did. He took some time to do his own thing, off the huge stage and into the clubs. Pantera never really broke up, they just were on a hiatus. I believe had Dime lived they would have gotten back together in '05 or '06. Along with Pete Steele, Phil is one of the greats.

I love Brother Phil and even tho'he may looked and sound out of sorts he is quite intelligent and knows what he speaks of.... BUT without Brother Dime there is no Pantera I saw Vinnie in Toronto backstage and he is having a blast touring and being productive..he signed my Dime&Zakk Guitar mag from 2003 the classic camouflage drunk binge they had with Dimes sig on it Vinnie smiled..we had a few moments to talk I love playing Pantera on the six stringer for over 20 years and their songwriting is greatly underrated I have learned more from the songwriting than the musical level Pantera and Dime live on forever and should be left the way it was where nobody can take it on tour and change the legacy and maybe even hurt it long live Brother Dime and Pantera

Only got to see Pantera once in 1996, Newcastle, Australia. Phil was in a right royal mood that night, he called us all a bunch of arseholes, got the shits and walked off at the end of the show. I remember looking at Dime and all he could do was shrug his shoulders as if to say what can I do. I agree with some of the other comments, leave Pantera's legacy as just that. Without Dime there is no Pantera. A world tribute tour once around would be good but that'd be enough.
