I feel like Phil’s relationship with his dad was so underrated on this show. They didn’t underplay it but I do wish we got to see more. Maybe because I don’t have a very good relationship with my dad and I was raised in an environment where dads weren’t supposed to be affectionate or silly, but their scenes together were the most heart warming for me. I will miss this father and son sorely.
@NS-ut6gy
@NS-ut6gy 3 жыл бұрын
You couldn’t have said it better tbh. Phil breaks the stereotypical standards that the dad is the “man” in the relationship, the breadwinner, the least sensitive, almost like a rock. Also, coming from a family with an absentee and emotionally ab*sive father, their relationship really touched me in ways words cannot describe.

@@NS-ut6gy same. My dad is emotionally abusive as well and it's so draining. Idk why I find myself becoming like him when I'm angry. I don't want to do it but I can't help it. 2 years of covid and my grandmother's death has made it worse.

@@alishakhan8926 I'm sorry your dad was like that. I had a very angry and abusive mother, and I kind of went the opposite way. I'm too meek and let people walk all over me. I just start dealing with it with therapy. Maybe that would help you. I hope you find some way to heal.

This is as real as it gets, Ty was blinking so hard, he lost his words and stutter before saying "the best day I have ever..." and the directors obviously didnt stop him, considering knowing Ty's dad actually died at a young age, this made this one of the most authentic monologues of the season if not the show. Kind of how will smith did his How come he dont want me man on Fresh Prince. Great Work by Ty Burrel

That little shake and rapid blinking he does before he said "I didn't know it would be the last" is more real and more sad than having the character spring a tear or choke up. That's genuinely how I get every time I have to talk about my own Dad's death. Ty Burrel is a phenomenal actor.

I (respectfully) disagree, Phil had a full “mourning” episode for his mom when they went to Australia and it’s true to the characters that they don’t want to spend the whole time moping instead they got a beautiful simple day together and then a nice sendoff

I don't disagree with the death/writing off of Frank. I just feel like that it should've been so much more meaningful. Especially considering how strong Phil & Frank's bond was. This could've been a really powerful moment but it felt kind of empty & quick given how quick it was and again, given how much Phil loved his dad, I feel that Phil would've been far more emotional than he was in this scene. It is still a good scene, I just felt like it could've been better.

I feel as if, even though its a great show, they did Frank injustice. He was an integral part of the show and the hardly gave a minute of mourning. Dede got a whole episode and I think they should have played more on Phil and Frank's relationship
