I watched that video with Nic Collins and I am so amazed at how well he plays and I really he goes far with his own band, "Better Strangers," and enjoys touring with Mike and the Mechanics. Imagine that being on your resume, drumming for Phil Collins, Genesis and Mike and the Mechanics!!!

As a drummer of over fifty years, in my opinion, Phil was the world's finest in the early seventies. His work on all albums up to and including The Lamb is breathtaking. Listen to his amazing playing on The Colony of Slippermen for instance - he sustains left hand triplets flawlessly and his fills and rolls and snare/bass drum playing are magnificent. It helps that the rest of the band were legendary players and composers too, but the way it all fits together makes the team of Gabriel/Collins/Hackett/Rutherford/Banks unbeatable. I guess I was born at the right time (1958) to appreciate that.

Agree, this information is so incredibly valuable for drummers like myself as well since nobody has really interviewed phil this in-depth as a drummer. Super interesting stuff (funny how almost every moment or quote you mention whether it’s from a nic interview or phil interview, I know exactly from what interview you’re talking about haha)

Phil must be be SO proud.🥰 Phil is THE 👑, and his son has big shoes to fill, but if he is anything like his hardworking passionate father, I think he's up for the challenge.👍👏🥰 I also loved your story about the way you set up your drums like Phil's. Too cute!😁🥰 I wonder if Nic did too when he was little.😉👍The only bad part is how Phil is now suffering for the lack of knowledge and ergonomics of drum playing that didn't exist back then. I"ve been following Drumeo for years. Lot's of great drummers on there. Check out Steve Smith also. Totally awesome. I'm waiting day by day for the Phil interview stuff to come out. I'll definitely pay if that is what it takes to see those.

Phil is under celebrated as a drummer. The boys in Rush saw the LLDOB tour in Toronto and were inspired. Although it might have been with Rutsey. Anyways, Neil Peart said Phil was a major influence

Not just a major influence... he paid tribute to Phil's technique, lyricism, creativity, the compositional fit of his drum parts, fluidity, power, dynamic control and variety, calling Phil his main influence in becoming the best progressive rock drummer he could be. He also called the drumming on Selling England by The Pound "an enduring masterpiece of rock drumming", something which could not have been done better. A nice long article in Rhythm Magazine back in 2011.... The man was an artist... so much subtle use of every part of the kit., from the most complex odd-time pieces to the most basic grooves done just so.

Supper's Ready was last played live in the early eighties. I saw it live in Toronto in, I believe, the summer of '82.

Yes, I'm surprised to hear that Phil Collins doesn't really listen to music even though he's a big music fan. But he's not the only musician that's like that. Once I saw An Interview of Daryl Hall on Live From Daryl's House (The Television Show from Daryl Hall's House where they have live music and all these different musicians.) In that interview Daryl Hall from Hall & Oates also said that he doesn't really listen to music either.

Nic is an okay drummer, but certainly not in the caliber of his father when he was in his prime. Phil was not only a great drummer, but he was a master at composing songs and drum parts. He doesn't get enough credit for his genius in these areas.
