Steve’s guitar absolutely sets this song alight. Great track and the guitar part deserves to be part of this, albeit short clip, of the conversation.

The very first time I heard The Lamb album, "Fly" grabbed me right away. I remember thinking that it sounded Egyptian.

I find early Genesis music fascinating. Absolutely blasted Nursery Chryme to The lamb lies down on Broadway for years. Such good fun to listen to. Wish I could be excited for their later work the same but it just never grabbed my attention . Foibles of life.

Thanks John for uploading these interesting interviews, both with Phil and each of the other members of the band. I've watched the various interviews with Phil in this specific location, and I was wondering if there are more and/or if there's a full interview video, something similar to the RAW. UNCUT. FULL 2HR. Cheers from Italy.

At some point when i the time .. sigh!.. I will go through the full length of that one and see if it works using all of it. though i think those selections you mention add up to the bulk of it

The drummer being stuck with a not ideal take and everyone else redoing their parts at will... relatable! The jam on "waiting room" has always been a highlight for me.. I generally enjoy Genesis' instrumental parts most, and Phil sounds best when he's playing by feel, as he's such an intuitive play-by-feel drummer IMO.

For the second where "Fly" changes time it certainly sounds almost EXACTLY like Zeppelins levy or kashmir. But it doesn't last very long and the song itself bears no relationship to anything led zeppelin did. I saw a meme that seemed to indicate Robert Plant felt a little guilty that he wasn't writing deeper lyrics like some of the prog guys, but I don't think zeppelin is bad for that. I find them almost boring because they are little TOO bluesy, although I think all the claims that Page stole all his riffs from black blues guys a little silly. Early Genesis is just flat out crazy. The lyrics contribute to that, but the 'busy' that Mike so often maligns is really what makes them great.

I prefer with the TimeCode than cropped and if the moving numbers are distracting for some, simply put a black rectangle or a Genesis logo over it.

It's worth noting that Phil is wrong -- "Kashmir" was not only _not_ on the same record as "When the Levee Breaks," but "Fly on a Windshield" predated "Kashmir" by an entire year.

The Genesis song that was inspired by Kashmir was Squonk from Trick of the Tail.

Led Zeppelin recorded the new tracks for Physical Graffiti (8 tracks including Kashmir) at Headley Grange in Jan, Feb 74..Genesis started recording Lamb stuff also at Headley Grange in June 74..in other words Physical Graffiti was recorded before but released after Lamb..there’s a more than good chance I think that Genesis would have heard the Zep stuff before it was released over the speakers at Headley Grange and were influenced by what they heard on Lamb..it’s quite common for bands to hear the stuff other bands have recorded at a recording facility to demonstrate to them how good the recording there is..this famously happened with Mick Fleetwood listening to Buckingham Nicks in a studio he was visiting whereby he wasn’t just impressed with the quality of the recording he loved the playing and the singing and asked them to join his band..

Funny to have muted a piece "for copyright reasons" in front of the one having the rights 😂 In any case I think we can play any piece up to 30 secs with no problem 3:37

Sadly, Phil does not have the music rights.Welcome to the nightmare world of music rights ownership !! Although it is clearly "fair use" to have Phil commenting on his own performance, the music publishers aggressively challenged me when I uploaded the full clip. I received a "copyright strike" from KZbin which is not good - as 3 strikes would lead to my channel being banned from KZbin !!
