This song takes me back to the time I had met the man who was to become my husband. I remember when it came on in the car, I would crank it up, really loud. While he loved music, I don't think he was crazy about my levels of volume in the car. But bless his heart, he never complained . And it seemed whenever we got in the car, there it was! And up went the volume. He passed away 11 years ago. It took a long time, but I now hear this song and a smile has replaced the tears. It feels good!

This, "I Wish It Would Rain Down" (Eric Clapton plays on that) and "Find A Way To My Heart" are my FAVs from Phil's "But Seriously" album.
@DrJekyll386 жыл бұрын
This one WAS XLNT, but "No Jacket Required" and "Dance Into The Light" remain my favorites. The problem with this one was that it sold so well that the follow-up "Both Sides" wound up feeling like a letdown, despite some great songs on it. That disappointment pretty much led to Phil re-inventing his sound a bit for "Dance", which was a fantastic album, albeit in 1997, with Grunge on life support and Slut-Pop on the rise, it was a tad underappreciated.

I remember this tune was first released back in 1990, when I was a teenager, and that's why I can pleasantly state it's been part of the soundtrack of my life ever since. On the other hand, I would like to say Phil not only is such an astounding, talented musician, but he set the standard as the artist who was able to make music by being capable of singing and also playing several instruments at a professional level, which are the piano, the guitar and the drums. And it's very sad to mention this, but in the upcoming years, there will never be anybody as brilliant as Phil, being thus a reality the members of the Generation X should know it will happen for sure.

I love that harmonic change in the bridge to the chorus, from B-flat major to F minor to C minor on "How many times can I say I'm sorry". That is so cool! It constantly goes between A-flat and B-flat majors for most of the song and finally resolves to E-flat (the fourth, not even the fifth!) in the chorus, and that is pretty awesome! The harmony in 80s music is way more complex than people give it credit for. These are not meme songs people. Unlike today's music, you can tell it was written by someone who actually cared about making the best music - striking the balance between accessibility for everyone, complexity in musicianship and virtuosity (in singing).

Everytime when Phil starts singing the first syllables, I fall in love with him, his voice and the melodies, he pushes me everyday with his joyance and deepness. For me he's the best artist, because of his high recognition value and his texts. The day when Phil is going to die, will be the saddest day for me :( I wish could know him personally and shake his hand, thank you for your big music, Phil!

Joy and depth. Good comment although try not to mess up English.

This song wasn't even in my top ten best Phil Collins songs a year ago but after getting back into his music it's become one of my favorites, Love Phil Collins.
