Thank you for another look inside the man who not only makes music but is music, Mark Kolpner. I truly enjoyed hearing the Scottish musician Phil Cunningham early beginning . I was introduced to Celtic music at an early age by my great Aunt who was from Scotland. I never got into the punk genre but my son did as a teenage drummer playing for what was almost an all girl band. Since I was the mom who provided the practice space, my reward was often hearing my son play Candy Dulfer' songs on his Sax or at the piano fingers playing Bruce Hornsby. Isn't music grand!

Seems like a genuinely nice guy, who would probably be happy to talk guitars to anyone.

'Seems like a genuinely nice guy'... Now he's not at the top. He would never had met Phil Cunningham when he was with Dire Staits, he was probably too important then... Posing wankers.

@@ConsairtinFergus A very tart comment! Knopfler remains a consummate musician, with a genuine interest, respect, and enthusiasm for other musicians, and talking music with them. He's never been too grand to mix with others, and play with them over the years. He would have known of, and respected Cunningham for many years - which is why, as it says here, he eventually played and recorded with him! Knopfler doesn't have to do anything now. He just does what he wants to musically and personally because he's more than earned the right to do exactly that - to follow his heart! This is a perfectly nice get-together, and easy-going relationship between two great musicians!

How many know the phrase that Phil is playing at the opening? The pipe tune is called "Green Hills" but the particular melody notes (slightly altered from the pipe tune borrowed from Rossini) are from the Andy not-M Stewart song "The Scottish Soldier."

I didn't realize that Knopfler was a Glaswegian, like Craig Ferguson and the only man we met while in Great Britain was Glaswegian because we were shy fools; for the most part it was my boyfriend who was anti-social, not I. And I walked down to Electric Avenue and felt wonderful at one of the flea markets.
