All you need to know about Phil is that the late, great Jeff Porcaro was once quoted as saying that Phil was one of his favorite drummers to listen to.

You know what's funny is I always felt Phil's touch on the drums was similar to Jeff's, they had these fluid fills and grooves and were so smooth . JR Robinson is a protégé of Jeff, who mentored him and he could have fit in well in toto. That's cool Jeff knew about Phil. From what I hear about Jeff is he always had good things to say about other musicians . Jeff and Phil both are amazing and inspirational. I played drums in my youth and later switched to guitar

My two drummer heroes. I didn't know that Jeff had said that, but it doesn't surprise me at all. I adore Phil and always have, he's brilliant. But My God I miss Jeff Porcaro. Every day..

@@mariomessina6389 Jeff Porcaro remains, to this day, a shining example of how a man should live their life. He was also one of the greatest drummers of all time.

One of the best albums of all time ...World Machine is still staggering, definitely the most influential album of my youth along with True Colours. The original line up has always been the best in my opinion. When Phil and Boon left the band the magic also disappeared. Still my all time favourite band.

Thankyou Phil, really great that you explained your true thoughts about the production of ‘World Machine’! Seems like it was your baby, & let down by the rest of the band! Good for you Phill! Thankyou, as your my hero!

Sad to think what could have been if Mark wouldn't have been so commercially oriented. They had the tallent, they could have been legends.

I think they are legends and developed a larger audience with some commercial hits I agree that Phil's ideas though should have kept being pushed and thr band while evolving should have stayed to their funk fusion roots while having a song or two that was commercial oriented . Their first 5 albums are just superb, especially with the unofficial 5th member Wally Badorou who was so instrumental to their sound too

I was at that Glastonbury gig and they did indeed nail it. I remember they did The Sun Goes Down at sunset.
