I met Phillip a long time ago at Greg’s apartment. It was right after Bobby left and Altazane Giles was singing on the Switch album. He walked in, introduced himself, told me and my my his brother had just won the Grammy .. the sat down at Greg’s Fender Piano 🎹 and started singing a Switch song 🎶 I remember feeling his voice through my body and getting goosebumps.. this was 1981 .. I was 16 and auditioning for Switch … Greg wanted me but my mom didn’t let me .. because of the Drugs Greg honestly said they used here and there. Phillip was then and still is one of my favorite singers and he was genuinely nice

His explanation about Bobby DeBarge was respectful. Philip is multi-talented/gifted (wow, he plays by ear) & still sounds good!

Gregg was going around talking about him. Bobby wanted to go solo. He had already had a taste of Gregg's b/s. It was tommy who suggested Bobby. Gregg started bad mouthing him to Jermaine. Again Bobby said no. Jermaine called bobby himself. On the phone Bobby told jermaine what he wanted. Bobby wanted to do his songs without them singing on them which they agreed he could do but he had to be on their songs. Bobby came as a diva he didnt get there 3 albums down. Tell me on the album what other songs did you think were single. And I was co writer of friend in the sky. I wish he were here!

I love randomly stumbling across great youtube content. As a long time fan of all things Debarge, I landed on this page, and ended up staying for the entire 51minutes & 56 seconds. Wow, what a grounded, personable guy Phil Ingram is. And great questions from Cindy Davis. I felt like I was sitting in on a conversation with friends. -Cheers from the Boston area!
