To some extent. His Aqua Man sounds like his John Stewart and Kotal Kahn. At least he's not like Steve Blum where almost all of his voices sound the same.

I was just about to respond, a voice actor IS the character. So much about the character is tied to their voice, by changing that you change the character. Just as Mark Hamil IS the Joker, Phil Lamarr IS Hermes, Samuri Jack, Wilt, a Jedi, and will always be.

I know voice actors like Troy Baker and Nolan North get a lot of praise for having range, but Phil LaMarr is on a whole different level! What a talented actor, and I hope he continues to get the recognition he deserves!!

Phil literally is a voice of multiple generations. But his talent is so diverse that you could change through ten shows in a single hour and not realize he’s in every single one, even as multiple characters.

Sollar Viccel Cartoon Network had an hour long special the night Samurai Jack premiered and had behind the scenes interviews with him, the other cast members as well as the creator of the show. I remember it like it was yesterday. ☺️

@@darklightimages There's actually a reason for that. If I remember correctly at a panel in a con I attended here in Long Beach. One of the co-creators Greg Weisman said that he purposely did not let most of his cast reprise as any DC characters they played in past DC Animated projects. He wanted to just do his vision of the characters. That's why hardly anybody reprised as characters even though they were already in the show.

His portrayal of Virgil Hawkins aka Static Shock is one of the most heartfelt superhero performances EVER! Still makes me mad we haven't gotten a Static Shock movie all these years later!

I wish this video was an hour long. Phil seems like such a cool guy with interesting stories and ideas. Static Shock was one of my favorite shows as a kid, Samurai Jack was my favorite as a teen (and still one of my top 5 now) and Futurama is my favorite as an adult. I love learning more about the people behind the voices of these things.

I mean voice acting talent needs to find more people as most voice acting is like 20 people. That’s how you help everyone expand the pot of voice actors and higher good talent and get talented people into good roles like Samurai Jake. Once everyone is limited by race what voice you can play we will lose a lot of good talent options. Got now big focus is whites in non white roles but there’s already talk of others playing outside their race.

He also provided the voice of Jazz in Transformers Animated, a role of his which I additionally enjoyed, but I don't mind him not mentioning that as well. To me, Phil Lamar's a true and respectable inspiration in voice acting, especially when it comes to voices such as Samurai Jack and Hermes Conrad. :)

Phil was a voice in every single one of my favorite childhood stories, especially Samurai Jack, and Justice Leauge. I remember purposefully sneaking out of my room late at night to be able to watch new JL episodes as they came out. Thank you Phil for helping create my love of story telling.

Goodness me, I had no idea what Phil LaMarr looked like before I watched this but boy, he looks great! Not to mention an extremely versatile VA. I mainly know him as Hermes in Futurama but he effortlessly jumps into so many characters just by switching his pitch, tone or placement - he deserves to be recognised as one of the great voice actors for sure!

At first, I thought the same thing, but that Aquaman wasn't so much "cool", as much as gritty or bada**. Of course, in that case I'd say much the same thing about the Momoa Aquaman, except his also had humor and swagger. "Cool" is just too up for interpretation.
