I grew up in Port Chester (in the 60's and 70's). The Dead show of 2/24/71 was my second rock concert I attended at the ripe old age of 16. Also caught Traffic, The Airplane and the classic MD&E tour (with Leon Russell and Rita Coolidge). The Dead loved to play at the Cap...

Wow! My first show was in 90 before Brent passed. I was a sophomore in HS. I still listen to the 70s and early 80s daily, and some days it’s early Allman Brothers before Duane passed, or the 80s AB. National Treasures.

I saw them in 80 and 81 Ventura Beach .... the first one was wall of speakers. Phil had a space jam where he made the ground vibrate! Maybe the mushrooms we were enjoying amplified that? But really his notes were lower than low E and rumbles turned into orgasmic shakes. no other band comes close. Love this lineup Jimmy listens! He feathers his guitar riffs. He's dynamic

Music WILL keep you young, just ax Mozart or Jimi... Jerry? oops. J. Herring is making a solid effort to play a bit outside the lines here, kinda hard to do while still obeying the rules of Deadness (i.e. not TOO outside.) He's demonstrating a bit of GUMPTION, which this type of music lives (or dies) on. At 12:57, Massa Headband calls out the key?(!) I guess they didn't have time for rehearsal. I'll be lucky to remember CLOTHING by that age!(?)

@@kenbash2951 I used to love the eagles, csny etc. I found it incredibly difficult to get into the dead when I first heard them. Like you I really felt they sucked big time - they sounded so unprofessional. It took me over a year of being exposed to the music (often without drugs) until I started to slowly get it. After that layer upon layer of depth opened up to me. It’s definitely an acquired taste. I’ve been a deadhead now for almost 50 years and I still love them. I’ve also played the guitar for the same length of time. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is, it was worth the hardship at the beginning.
