Den Watts was always legendary - his expressions, his swagger and the way he carried himself. TRemendous actor. The only thing thats changed about Den is that in the 80s Walford was slightly more friendly and more family-orientated. Every1 helped each other (except for the odd few). So Den was in a good setting where he had many friends and stuck up for the community. He was trendy and slick. Now when he returned he was more physical and no-thrills who was hardnut, selfish and rotten as anyone

Its a shame Grant and Den never met, that would have been a really good battle, thinking about it they actually had a lot in common. They both had children with Michelle Fowler. They both were the landlords of the Vic. And Grant was married to his princess. Den was more a mind game kind of guy, he was very clever and cunning, whereas Grant just steamed in with his fists and used violence. They only missed each other by two years in the 90s. Den left in 1988 and Grant arrived in 1990 and in the 2000s they missed each other by 7 months Den left in Feb 2005 and Grant returned in Sept 2005. It is such a shame they never met, it would have been great to see how they would have interacted.

If I was in charge of Eastenders I would bring Den Watts back even though I watched the episode when Chrissie hit Den with the Victoria bust. If the writers could bring Den back after he was shot by those daffodils in about 1989 then it shouldn't be that hard to bring him this time around as I think he was by far best character in the show and if the writers did then I would watch the show again.

He was quite old when he started in his mid 40s i think so wasnt at his peak. However, dennis and den got those guys out the club and den showed he had skills (plus he was pushing 60). He had a fight with vickies ex although i cant really remember it, he took on phil at his peak, took a very solid punch and still got up and found a way to beat phil.

Killing Den Watts off was definately a big mistake, he was one of the best characters in the show and I wanted to see a fued between Phil and Grant vs. Dennis and Den. I didn't like Den's death that much anyway, having his head smashed by Chrissie was a bit lame.

I think the writers were indeed going in that direction having a Den & Dennis vs The Mitchell Brothers fued but because of the Leslie Grantham sex scandal they went in a different direction and turned Den into a rotten character that met a very rubbish demise.

Had Den been 15 years younger he would've ran the Mitchell's out of town, Den, during his first time around, was a bad guy who did a lot of good things for his friends and family, he did love Angie but he was too much of a free spirit for her, Den was also protective of Kathy after her rape and was determined to get revenge, his 00s return kinda ruined him in a way.

Den was that hard in a physical way like Phil and Grant or The Firm which you may remember he ran away from in his 1980's heyday, Den was always psychological tough and hard to break and clever at stitching crooks like Phil up which he proved he could still do during his return period despite being older and greyer. The only thing that truly destroyed Dirty Den's character wasn't his portrayal of it but actor Leslie Grantham's off screen controversy hence why he was written out of the series within 2 years of his comeback. In my opinion some of his best storylines came in this period though, shame that despite his obvious talent as an actor he chose to be an arguably even nastier piece of work in real life then the character he became famous for portraying. It's not often a convicted murderer and someone who gets exposed in a vile online sex scandal that spite his own work colleagues is still hailed as something of an icon and national treasure.

Den was tough in his younger days, he could talk his way out of a fight and fight his way out of a talk, even if he had to use a weapon, or play a "Oh, it's about time you turned up" trick on his opponent. He was a fit and energetic man, I reckon if 80s Den was facing Phil in a boxing ring, all he'd have to do is bounce around Phil and tire him out, and then he'd easily have him. When Den was an old man he was quite pathetic though, after 2003 atleast, everybody saw him as a hasbeen and a joke.

In a 1-on-1 fight, Grant and Phil would both beat Den. Den showed fear to no one and he'd have never feared Grant. But in a war, Den destroys both. He already outsmarted Phil; Grant wouldn't be able to handle it.
