Phil Mogg is one of the most of the underrated artists of rock. At 64, he is still touring with the band this year (check their tour schedule and go!), and has continued to turn out well-crafted songs as the years go by. With Michael Schenker as a guitarist, my favorite album is "Walk on Water"; with Vinnie Moore, my favorite is "You Are Here". Mogg is an amazing writer whose work has grown immensely with time and deserves great praise.

Phil's voice is so distinctive, and what a tremendous writer! I agree with him (and others here) that The Wild The Willing and the Innocent is overlooked for the great rock album that it is. Love to Love is still one of my favorite songs along with the obvious Schenker-era tunes, but for my money, I could listen to WW&I over and over again. I was a little disappointed when Mechanix came out, but after repeated listening I came to really love that one too. My more metal friends do not share my enthusiasm for UFO and I could never understand why, although I suppose their finesse and more straight ahead hard rock approach is not purely enough metal for them. Phil Moog is the Springsteen of hard rock lyrics, imo. Amazingly talented man.

It was towards the END. But the fans deserved and GOT IT when UFO joined Uli Jon Roth at Donnington in 2001. I saw Pete way at a little record store and w/his Amphetamine band in October or late Sept. 2000 but that Donnington gig...it don't get better than that. Bravo. Rockin' memories. Phil Mogg has been a huge inspiration for over half my life for well over half my life. I really feel strongly that UFO's music can save lives cos it saved mine. When I was just a 12 to 14 year old boy getting abused in school I would come home and put UFO on and it always made me feel really great. I honestly think no band can equal them. I could say Iron Maiden come close they are very consistent, but that's a different take on UFO I know Way and Harris are or at least were really good friends. Can't beat these British bands and British musicians. Great stuff.

Dear Benjamin, I tried to write you a private message but it didn't work somehow. I wanted to say that UFO will proabably not be the salvation for everybody. That it helped you is really great. That it might help others is too. But don't forget that, that no matter how bad it is for you, there is always help for you. Sometimes even in a form you didn't suspect. Sometimes a piece of music might help you, but if it isn't helping what are you doing. People that are in pain in any way should not be afraid to seek help in any form- There are people that are caring for you. Never give up. And keep on rockin' Cheers!

A great deal of their great music was made AFTER MS. I'm sick of hearing about how UFO was only good with Shenker. Bullshit! WW&I and Mechanix we're fantastic albums, because of the music itself. An individual guitarist can't make or break a band, it's the whole of the songs themselves. MS was a great part of UFO, but deifyng him, as what made UFO great, has been getting old for the last 40 years! It way past time the band itself was recognized for it's entire body of exellent work!
@vntr20066 жыл бұрын
Rubbish record distribution did not help. UFO were a big concert draw in the States around 78/79 but Obsession and Strangers never got near the album top 20. I believe people could even buy the records in a lot of cases.

@marhill77 The interviewer never asked. The questions were about memorable gigs, back stage antics, the new album, Mogg's personal favorites. He wasn't asked about the relative contributions of individual members, or what factors put them "over the top". It's not as if he slagged Michael or anything; he just answered teh questions he was asked.

What an exceptionally honest bloke, not afraid to admit that several albums are full of filler stuff. He's also implicitly stating that they weren't great without Schenker as well. The only other artist that I have heard basically say he wrote a lot of crap songs is Robin Trower, but in his case it was more having to compare everything to the Bridge of Sighs album, that he could never quite reach again.
@MrSmokeydog9 жыл бұрын
What is a 'BLOKE ''
@Veaseify9 жыл бұрын
Bloke is a slang term for a man common in Ireland, Australia, Britain, New Zealand, and South Africa. Usually for someone down to earth, nobody would call Prince Charles a 'bloke' for instance...

Robin Trower not quite reaching Bridge of Sighs again? I was truly impressed with his 2010 album The Playful Heart, a badass rocking album from start to finish, but after that he lacked the inspiration and gone back to the usual blues stuff

Wait can I ask when was this deal done with Phil and Micheal ? Surely it must have been after the walk on water album and two tours that followed that in 95 and 98?? As before when micheal left after strangers they got Paul Chapman ( whos period with the band I adore btw ) and it was still called UFO. Then Neil carter replaced Paul Raymond then Pete way left and it was still called UFO with misdemeanor 85 too and then again for high steaks in 92 . So when was this deal ? I know that in 2003 or 2004 they or Phil got the name alone back ? If someone could explain to me would be amazing. I adore UFO I'm going to be seeing them for the last time in Scotland next week two dates in Inverness and Glasgow it will be amazing and very emotional. And I think they are just as good without schenker Vinnie Moore is incredible live
