Most people with degrees cannot mend a fishing net or lay a brick. My father in law had an 8 grade education, but he could build a house and figure the dimensions in his head. I'm with Jase. The day after I graduated from high school I started picking up garbage in the town that I lived in. After Labor Day they said I had to leave. I got another job as a detailing draftsman and I wore a tie every day. When the snow disappeared I got antsy. I went back to the DPW and stayed there until I retired. I worked outside and nothing could have been better for me.

Jase, I retired from the army at 20 years. I ran 5 miles each day , That is 7300 days, times 5 miles , that’s 146,000 minutes, divide by 60 gives me an additional 2,433 hours. I’ve been retired from the Army for 17 years and haven’t run a day since, I just about used up my time, but I feel great!!!!

I am an alcoholic and addict in recovery for 2.5 years, I'm 38 and I've spent most of my life numbed from the struggles of every day life. After being sober for a few years I've had depression hit me like a ton of bricks. During my bout of depression and coming to my senses afterwards I've realized that I've spent most of my life unhappy and miserable which is why I drank and drugged so much. I worked my butt off all my life for someone else and have nothing to show for it. I've tried to impress people, prove myself and be the best. Now that I'm sober and somewhat mentally stable I have realized that I'm not going to live the rest of my life trying to prove myself, and impress people. All for nothing. Material things won't make you happy. This kind of relates to running a mile for 5 more minutes of life. I may never get another 5 minutes and I'll be dang if I'm gonna spend the next 5 minutes working my butt off for someone else, or trying to numb myself from being miserable and unhappy. I'm going to be sober and enjoy the rest of my life. I'm going to be happy for once. I may work hard, but it won't be for someone else, unless the are in need and unable. I dont know why I'm commenting this other than I hope someone else reads it and doesn't make the same mistake. And if you're struggling with alcoholism or addiction, you can be happy without it. It may not seem like it now, but trust me, you're not happy drinking and drugging. It's all a lie. Cherish the time you have now and stop running.

Al, I love that you are rocking A St Judes Children’s Research Hospital Hat! It reminded me I haven’t bought my $100 CharityTicket! I’ll do that tomorrow morning! I live in Memphis and We Support St Jude! I’ve had 2 cousins who went thru St Jude 50 yrs ago. They were both teenagers at the time and both didn’t live long after their Diagnosis but I know they helped the Research Dept learn more about each of their diseases! The Doctors came to both a their funerals because that’s just the way they do things at St Jude and that has never changed! I urge your listeners to help this unique, kind and loving family of staff, Researchers, nurses and doctors! They are Special! Please give to the very worthy cause if it’s in your heart to do so!
