An Update on Mia Robertson's Extensive Surgery and the Difficult Recovery Ahead | Ep 247

Jase is back with an update on how his daughter, Mia, is doing after her longest, most extensive craniofacial surgery yet. He describes many of the challenges ahead, including swelling that will last 12 months. Phil marvels that he's never heard a word of complaint from Mia. Jase is nearly defeated by NASCAR-like driving conditions in Dallas and has to play the "I have a gun" card at his hotel, but an encounter with a young couple at the hospital fills him with encouragement. I had one of the worst cancers my Drs. said a person can have. I had 14hrs. of surgery where they cut my tongue and jaw off and the best Drs. in the world that just happened to be here in Dallas did the most incredible job ever. When people look at me and see the mess that I am, I always tell them and everybody that says anything, that there are a lot of people out there a whole lot worse off then me and from my heart that means especially Mia and any baby or child that has to go through anything because all children need and deserve is a precious, healthy, and loving life forever!!!!!! Thanks again for a great show!!!!!!!

I understand more than you know and am struggling right with you. Try to drink as often as you can and I’ll try and take the same advice. Also, try to eat watermelon, grapes, jello, and things like that, as it helps add to your hydration as well. This is advice I’ve been given. God bless you.

My heart is with Mia, working in oral surgery myself I’ve seen a lot, it takes a strong person to fully recover, several folks snip their wires just to eat a hamburger there craving, if, Only people understood god gave us the ability to chew, can you imagine having an itch and having no way of getting to that itch!! Being on a liquid diet so long you crave to chew, we’re with you Mia Moo❤️

I cannot imagine. I have trigeminal neuralgia as well as GI issues that have left me on liquid diets or npo for extended periods. Along with missing being able to chew, so many foods flavors are released only when we chew them. We crave textures and yes, we were designed to chew by our awesome creator.

Yes, & chewing aids digestion! The very act releases chemicals that help our gut system process the food! Very difficult when you have to not chew for an extended period of time! And the desire to chew is overwhelming! Numerous ways to combat, switching up the food shake ingredients for instance! Getting focus distracted in more productive thoughts, etc etc

He will be getting his first major face surgery next summer, I think of myself as a brave strong soldier I was, but I am scared, confused. Just glad to know there is hope. Jase. I listened and wept in your recounting of Mia's surgery and ordeal. In 1983 my daughter Marren was born with a sever craniofacial cleft. Marren has had 23 surgeries since that date. As Mia, Marren also did not take pain medication. Truthfully I blamed God for her birth defect. A good friend, co-worker, and a man of God held my hand and witnessed for me, showing me God's grace for Marren. That day I accepted Jesus as my savior. You and your family stay strong for Mia.
