I met phil on a poker cruise in 2006 i think it was, and have a great photo with him. My m8 and i were having an early morning coffee on deck in a quiet area when phil strolled past, we just said 'morning phil' when he got to where we were, and he just sat down with us without prompting, and we had a great chat for 10 mins or so till he had to get back to his carver, he's a really nice & genuine guy

(im sick of my dad telling this story! hahahahah) but fair play to phil, he is a man of his word.

Met Phil in a pub before an exhibition years ago, i wanted to leave him alone when Me Mate said who he was and i said i don't know him and me mate says he's number one dart player in the world.. And reminded me i played darts a ton loads.. So met him before i knew who he was and he was lovely.. Then i found out he really was the number one and i was gob smacked i missed the opportunity to talk to him as i was silent throughout drinking a pint with him whilst me mate Gary talked with him for half an hour.. I was as quiet as his security bloke.. I didn't want to bother him. So nice, lovely smile.. And very warm to be in his company.

For the amount of media training this man should’ve been exposed to as the pinnacle of the sport, it was no wonder we heard very little from him and his commentary career is down the porthole. Arguably the GOAT and nobody can take that away, but… he’s got to learn from his old master Eric and still try to learn to perform on that. Legacy is undoubted, legend status is still to be earned.
