Phenomenal. An amazing album. Loved it for many decades.

I was at university, a beginner on the alto. Downtown, I found this album and knew nothing about it. I bought it anyway and mercilessly flogged it in my student household where Yes and Steely Dan reigned. The others couldn’t understand it. But I loved it and still do. As a music writer I interviewed him for a national newspaper. And then a couple of years ago I read that Phil had just died and I burst into tears.

He was absolutely at the top of his game in the 70's. Some remarkable albums, whether with his working group or more elaborate releases such as this and Floresto Canto.

His recording of the American Concerto Pat Williams composition with the London Symphony stands at the top for me along with this.
