I don't care what anyone says... @philx1111 is one of the best guitarists and performers out there today. Whether it be with his band, The Drills. Or, playing covers of the greatest songs ever with a mashup of different artists. This, right here, with Michael Anthony on bass and Mike Lewis, regardless of the quality of the recording... is freakin' awesome.

Michael Anthony is one of the most epic backup vocalists.. his demonstration of his vocal range even in this video is pretty amazing. There's certain things that you hear from VH that you know that it's VH even if you hear a quick snippet of a song. From the guitar licks, to the distinctive heavy drum cymbals, to the high pitch backing vocals.. Michael Anthony was just as important to Van Halen success and distinct sound as Eddie and David Lee Roth. I just finished the memoir, "Running with the Devil, A Backstage Pass.." by their former manager Noel Monk and it is a very good read into the beginning of the band 78-84 until his dismissal and it's a shame what the VH Brothers did to Michael Anthony pertaining to being an equal creative member of the band. He is such a talented and nice guy.

And the dirty little secret is that Ed was jealous of his vocal abilities, and the fact that Mike got all the credit for backing vocals. Ed was the original lead singer, and Alex had to make him stop singing. Ed didn't want to. Ed thought he sang better than he actually did. Thus "How many say I", and proof of his inability to perform as a lead vocalist. Over the years his jealousy and angst grew until he tossed Mike out of the band before the 2004 reunion with Sam. It was pitiful how he treated Mike, how he said horrible things about him. This is why, pure jealousy. And it's even sadder that Mike and Ed's voices somehow blended well. Ed always sounded flat to me, but Mikey pulled him up and made the backing vocals harmonize perfectly.
