Phil Zuckerman is so awesome. I wanted to attend the convention, but couldn't afford it.

Same here, and childcare along with ongoing health issues have really been a problem this year as well. Maybe someday we'll have a chance to attend one of the conventions!

Wow! Another great humanist with excellent points! Not yet familiar with his body of work, but he sure woke my interest: I will be keeping my eyes and ears peeled for more!

One thing about religious people is when they do something wrong, "The Devil made me do it" and when they do something right, "It's the work of the Lord". As an Atheist, I know when I do something wrong, it is me who is responsible and when I do something right, it also me who is responsible. Which means I am the one responsible for my choices and when I make mistakes, I am responsible for the clean up. I think this is a far more moral compass than any religion I've ever encountered. Buddhism is the best one of them since it can be interpreted as the first psychology of the mind but even they have supernaturalistic ideas.

I've kind of always felt 'thoughts and prayers' were a replacement for action. It's what people say when they can't or won't render aid.

My brother is a physician. He is also friends with the Greene family of hobby lobby. One of the son’s wives came in one day. When she was done with appt, she asked him for samples so she wouldn’t have to get prescription. He did so and then asked her if she would donate to the Ronald McDonald House. It’s a big deal for him. She said,”Yes, I will pray about it.” His wife is friends with this lady. He hangs with them because he won’t put his foot down and tell her he won’t hang out with such corrupt people. I give him shit about it.

At least an atheist liberal and an atheist conservative can agree agree on the facts of reality before debating political, social or economic ideas.

If only Phil had read Voltaire's "lectures on atheism" - all his atheistic ignorance would have dissipated like fog.

It's sad to see Phil writing off Trump voters as immoral even using the words "horrifying" ...and this is a huge problem with Phil's talk, that he insists disagreement with his political views makes someone an immoral person. Reasonable people can come to different conclusions on political issues. The oddest idea here was that Phil said belief that racism is a major problem in America today shows you are a moral person and even worse that we all have 'internalized racism' living in America & that we have to work to not act on it. Sorry, Phil, for me it's not an internal conflict of having to not act on my racism...I'm just not a racist person. I also don't see racism as a major problem today unless we're talking about racist attitudes from Black Lives Matter and people like Robin DiAngelo. Phil also suggests that not supporting racial reparations is a sign that a person is not moral. Wow. We ditched Atheism+ years ago, let's not ressurect it again. Phil also makes an extreme factual error saying that David Silverman supported Trump. Dave voted for Jo Jorgenson and considers himself a libertarian. Stop demonizing people who happen to disagree with you on certain political, economic, or social matters as "horrific" and "disgusting."

Lol, come on. The pro-life group you “confronted” is such low hanging fruit. In fact your opinion of religion seems to have been created in a liberal vacuum. And why start with such a petty “anecdote” then explain that cherry picked examples are unproductive?
