Risto looked great and I thought York played solid defense. Both moved the puck well too. Sanheim playing around 25 minutes each night has got him a little sore and banged up, so not all the defensemen were universally good. I really like how many situations the coaching staff has given Zamula as of late. He seemed equal parts good and also shaky keeping the puck alive in the ozone, so really it seems theres some growing pains with the new promotions. Walker left big shoes to fill.

I’m really on the fence about Risto and Zamula as a pair. It doesn’t look like they are gelling yet, but I’ll give it time. In the short sample so far, Risto looks completely different than he did in preseason.

I have another one about their offensive scheme. Last year, they were so good on 5v5 and the breakout in particular. Torts said that style of play was in preparation for Michkov’s arrival. Although in doing so they did not spend enough time practicing deflections and net front play. I kow it’s only 3 games, but this season the goal disparity with 5v5 is noticeable and their breakout offense that they prepped for Michkov’s arrival is nonexistent. What gives ?!?

I would have preferred Emil Andrea playing over Johnson. I know there is the size factor. But, you really can't tell if Andrea is regular season material from the press box. Johnson doesn't hurt you but... Torts goes with the players he knows.

Driving the net recklessly like that with McDavid, Leon, and Bouchard on the other side... when you know the two forwards on the ice with you are TK and Michkov is essentially score or it's over for you. And he didn't score.

Yes they can. Lots of good signs in the first 3 games, especially having powerplay goals in every one of those games. 82 game season means we have 79 more games to build up a great record. Heres to hoping anyways!

tippett critique seems misplaced, he made some absolutely electric plays and if he can keep that up I trust that those picks will get through in time.

Hockey gods gave us a good powerplay, and the 3rd youngest team. I believe we got a few of our top choices, so I am fine to wait to close an opponent out in regulation since other things are going well.
