To a guy from Detroit like me I was blown away by how everything is so compacted there, just designed to pack as many people as possible within a given area. Those of us used to backyards and strips of grass on the streets found these entirely missing, so so dense and a true concrete jungle. The chicks were crazy about a guy from Detroit and I walked around like a king, now I'd be stabbed on the 1st block, but it was alot of fun back then. People out to the early hours of the morning getting buzzed, playing basketball or blackjack in the street, having a good time. Loved the water ice and cheese steaks, tourist attractions like Ben Franklins grave, the mint, Liberty bell and South St. I'm sure there must be some decent areas left but what a shame to see huge tracts of that city become a drug infested cesspit like that - Thanks Dems !

Just because your poor does NOT excuse you for being dirty or living in FILTH!! I grew up down south in a low income household ALL of my neighbors also low income YET we always made sure our grass was cut, yard was always nice no trash on our street, no broken down cars on cinderblocks etc. Sad how people can be cool and comfortable living with FILTH all around them.

The ghettos of Philadelphia are more immigrant neighborhoods, there are few Americans, immigrants love to live the way they lived in their countries of origin

By the way, keep the Soviet-Russian life hack. When the snow melts in spring and the garbage accumulated over the winter becomes visible, we go out on clean-up days (in our language, "subbotnik", from "subbota" - Saturday). We gather (for free on weekends) to clean the places where we live and work with our own hands. At work, they give out gloves, brooms, garbage bags, and we clean the area and around it. The same is practiced by many residents around their apartment buildings. We chalk the curbs, tree trunks, everything becomes very beautiful and festive (just finishing by May 1). By the way, there will be much more people who want to clean up if, after cleaning, they get out the barbecues together and fry a barbecue :)

@@silwen9412 You seem to think I live in Philadelphia? Pfwahahahhahaha, "at it again"? You mean like you are at it again in 2022 as in 2014? We offer you a way out as well; give up your aggressive ways, make peace with your neighbors, pay restitution. For God's sake; clean up your politicians. And get indoor plumbing. And then, eventually, why don't you try democracy? Right now you live in your own filth, but like you said, you are used to it. Every accusation from someone like you is an admission.

Move to Europe, that'll be Russia in the coming years. After they take over Ukraine then they'll be invading the neighboring country which I believe is Poland. they even mentioned trying to take back Alaska. So keep your fingers crossed you might get to live in Russia without even moving.

Please go to the Wilmington Delaware suburbs. They're turning decently bad over time. Right across the street are million dollar mansions. I've not seen anyone show the area and how jarring it is to half golf courses, mansions and dog parks right next to pretty bad ghettos.

Honestly Kensington isn’t all that dangerous, just really dirty and gross, it’s Lehigh area, west of broad street, that I’m worried about, or certain blocks in juniata (in terms of north Philly) that I would consider like the worst worst, I’ve walked through Kensington at night and it’s just junkies sitting, but strawberry mansion and the Latino neighborhoods are a no go zone to walk at night for me lmaooo

Makes me glad my folks didn't migrate to the north, during the great migration. Shid we own a 100acre farm here in central Georgia. But I do wonder at times what life would have been like had my great grandparents migrated to the north.🤔

It depends what you want out of life. This is one section of Philly and even in this impoverished section you have very quick proximity to tons of great things to do / high paying jobs / NYC, DC, etc. Sinply on the basis of having to drive everywhere (which is the most dangerous thing most Americans do every day), your rural life isn’t statistically that much safer than people living up here.

Been in Philly and environs for 30+ years. Fun fact: why so many red painted row houses? Because red paint is the cheapest paint available. White paint is actually more expensive. So much brickwork just badly overpainted red. So, it also has a long-used nickname of Philthadelphia, because of the trash that's everywhere. It sort of disappears as you get into the burbs. I remember moving to Philly 30+ years ago after leaving the Air Force, stationed for four years in Washington, DC, which was a mess back then. I remember first seeing North Philly (not the "Great Northeast" Philly, which is a rabbit warren of streets) and thinking that it looked like London after the blitz. Actually, it has gotten somewhat better, with areas being slowly gentrified and, quite frankly, parts of it just collapsing and being hauled away. It's still a very sad place. Sadder, yet, are the people who live there. It's okay to be poor, even ignorant. But the combo in Philly just creates the worst type of people, always trying to "get over" on everyone else, pretty terrible human beings, with a horrible view of the world, gun culture, settle all things with violence, no sensibilities with how to live with one another in a civil, peaceful way. Chaos.
