Curse you Phil for making wood turning look so effortless and beautiful! Im 62 and just got my first midi lathe, a Craftex CX 814, the Canadian equivalent to the Grizzly G0844. I bought a couple of gouges and made a 1/2 dozen different scrapers and skews using some chinese HSS. It's a lot of fun trying to mimic your style, but it's not as effortless as you make it appear! Keep on inspiring us with your artistry, we truely appreciate your talent and contribution.

Turned out great Phil. I see what you were talking about when you mention the dark grain in the Cherry bowl I did. I have wondered about it as well I sort of think wet wood does this to the end grain. That said I did not think the Cherry piece I did was wet. Either way what you just made sure is pretty! Gary
@valeriehenschel15903 күн бұрын
Yup, Gary. Orchard cherry with its green and sometimes pinkish wood loves to move, wet or bone dry. And crack. But the results are usually soooo worth it!
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop2 күн бұрын
I think it's the wet wood too, Gary. I'm going to let the other half dry awhile and then I'll know for sure! Thank you, buddy! 😀
@stephenmccool81273 күн бұрын
I was liking this as you shaped the outside. Man, that looked great. I've never seen cherry with that coloration either, but maybe it's the crotch wood. This is why I like turning. You don't really know what beauty lies beneath. Awesome job Phil! You delivered as always.
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop2 күн бұрын
Thank you, Steve! 😀 I think it's because it was wet. We'll find out when I turn the other half after it dries.

Your video was superb Phill,Thank you so very much. You always say what you're going to do this next,what size chisel. So so excellent. I'm waiting for a nice piece of cherry to dry out (9" x 6inches) .I have this piece in sawdust to assist the drying out period.
