Massive describes it very well Phil. I was going to finish my coffee and head out to my lathe but now I need to rest after watching you work so hard. But the hard work was well worth the effort. I did see a number of faces and animals but my head was spinning from watching all the cool features I lost them. But they are there...really LOL The finish is perfect for the piece as it always is. Great choices all the way through this fun video to watch. Take care and rest up my friend, Gary

Hello Phil. At about minute 27, you ask, "can you see the salamander"? My mother and I both got a smile from that because she saw a gekko and I saw a sugar glider. :-). I get the impression that turning a burl is a bit like opening a geode, in that you are almost certain to find something delightful inside it. Anyway, as always, thank you, thank you for bringing us these videos.

Wow! The shape is perfect -- kind of like a volcano from the side views. The sheen is ideal -- not too much shiny-shiny to detract away from the colors and grain. Nicely done Phil! I’m glad to hear that you prefer the natural properties that might cause a bowl to remain thick. I have found that truth in some of my turnings too, but am a little sheepish that I didn’t thin the bowl out further. This piece is a showcase for natural bowls everywhere. Thanks so much!

Cool, thanks Karen! 😃 I do like bowls that are a little chunky. They have some heft that give a feeling of value, to me. On the other hand, I usually try to make them as thin as the characteristics of the wood will allow. Luckily for me, I like weird wood so they often have thick sides because otherwise, they would have holes in them!

Maple is beautiful wood. Nature sometimes makes it even more beautiful with tiger stripes or birds eye...but at the top of that list is the burl. It takes a true master to expose what might otherwise have been wasted or burned. Your patience and craftsmanship and eye for beauty have rewarded us all with something truly outstanding. It looks amazing from any angle you present. I could hear the exhaustion in your voice towards the end. Thank you for finishing it for us to see. Absolutely stunning!

🙋‍♂️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Hi Phil really fantastic piece of wood turning you really know how to get the best out of the wood that your fans give you. When I was looking at you turning it in your hands it reminded me of looking over into the bowl of an extinct volcano, then at the instant you said the you could see a salamander I was thinking of a gecko. Brilliant video thanks so much for the effort you put in weekly for all to enjoy. Take care.

Phil there on the bottom of the bowl the dark wood has a shape of a person. One leg on the outside of the base one on the inside of the base. It's a beautiful piece. The finished piece can be viewed from any direction because it's beautiful all the way around. Your work paid off.

Thank you, Tuffy! Oh, I hate trying to sleep in the heat! I don't mind you dozing off in the middle of my blood, sweat and tears as long as you re-wind, buddy! LOL! Someone once asked me how often I replace my watch (I'm sure he meant because it must get damaged wearing it while turning) and I said, "oh, about every 20 years I guess." I think I've had this Seiko longer than that! 😀
