Absolutely!!! Staying concierge on the Apex in December and not a fan of the infinite veranda. 😏 It looks claustrophobic and I don’t like how you can’t open it up and share with the connecting room, like you could on the Silhouette. 😢
@PhilCatsea2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t find it claustrophobic because of the floor to ceiling window. To me it’s more like a room with a great view and a window you can open. But definitely loses the “balcony feel” Cheers🛳👍🏻

Great tips for the room like the bathroom door dampening robe and the dirty clothes hamper! LOL I think we'll be good with the balcony on our Asent cruise. Phil, you made excellent observations to the room. I noticed your head almost touching the ceiling. Incredibly low!
@PhilCatsea2 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, I never really noticed the ceiling being any lower than any other cruise ship room we’ve stayed in. That being said it does kind of look that way in the video? Hmmm. I think it might be an optical illusion or the camera angle. Overall we had no trouble with the height of the ceiling. Thank so much for watching 🛳️👍🏻

Thanks, Phil, for this excellent narrative and video tour ! You are perfectly detailed and practical while being fair and open minded in the merits or lack thereof, of the infinity veranda. What nailed it shut for me was when you put a fingered-frown-face on your rooms mirror LOL ! Hilarious but that sure spoke volumes to have that kind of humidify building up in your stateroom with the veranda window open. I have to have the fresh sea air around me in my stateroom - to hear it see it feel it. And at night to be lulled to sleep by it. So this stateroom is a big n-o for me. I also loved how you pointed out the lack of a seal where the bi-fold doors are and so many more helpful pointers. I am a fan of your channel - not a fan of this lovely looking but impractical infinity idea. CHEERS TO YOU and happiest of travels !!! M. PS - one question: with all the noise opening and closing those opaque bi-fold doors, did you hear this from neighboring staterooms and speaking of noise, did voices carry over to you via the windows from adjacent staterooms ?
@PhilCatsea8 ай бұрын
Hello Again👋🏻 First off thanks for watching and sharing another great comment. I’ll put you down as a “Nay” for the room. lol. Personally I think we would try this type of room again ( for the right price). The floor to ceiling window is very impressive when you walk in and makes it feel vey open. There are some traditional balconies available on these ships so there’s always that option👍🏻 As for noise? No we never heard a thing. Nothing. Nada. Zip. 🤫 Everything was quiet. 😊 Don’t give up on these ships just because of the balcony or lack of. They are beautiful and worth a try. Cheers 🥂
@marciasanguinetti39008 ай бұрын
@@PhilCatsea Thanks Phil - you almost sold me back to try one, and I say almost because the fact that the veranda area is soooo quiet and no noise nada thru walls will persuade me because we've cruised our fair share of regular veranda room and most times we luck out by getting a mega-phone voice next door yammering to the world at large on their veranda LOL ! Many thanks and happy travels !!! PS - we'll probably try to 1-way cruise on the Edge to or from Honolulu via Vancouver as much of the time we'll have sea days and those are the best !

Thanks so much for the detailed look at this. I'm torn on whether or not I'd like this sort of room. We're going on Celebrity for this first (and second) time next year. We'll be on the Apex in a retreat suite and on the Summit on a traditional Aqua class balcony room. Assuming we like Celebrity I could definitely see us booking the Beyond or whatever the latest and greatest is for 2024 and we'll be sure to revisit this video then before making any decision.
@PhilCatsea2 жыл бұрын
Hey Eddie, Glad you appreciated the video. Sounds like you like your comfort on a cruise (Retreat and Aqua) , nice! there are some regular style balconies so maybe pic one of those. Thinking maybe a Sunset balcony at the back would be nice (if you're not in the retreat). We love Celebrity I'm sure you'll enjoy them too. Thanks for watching
@andreaschrum26862 жыл бұрын
I heard a ‘regular’ balcony is a different class. These are the classic balcony rooms on these class of ships. Weird. Oh well. Glad to have some fresh air and a view. Going on the Beyond in November. Excited!
@PhilCatsea2 жыл бұрын
Hi there👋🏻 Yes, actually the regular balconies are cheaper. They are at the very front and back sides for the ship. They have a round opening. This would cause somewhat of a restricted view, plus they’re not that big IMO. Also, some suite class staterooms have full balconies and so do the sunset verandas facing aft. It’s just a matter of choice and cost. We still enjoyed the room. The ship is beautiful and the BEYOND looks even better. ENJOY!👍🏻 Sorry the delay on this comment. For some reason some of the comments have been held for review and I just found out? I’ve figured it out now though lol Thanks for watching 🛳👍🏻

Great video!! For an Alaskan cruise at the end of May, would you rather have the Infinite Veranda or a true balcony? I have booked the IV room on the Edge for next May 23rd (our first ever cruise leaving for Alaska out of Seattle for 7 nights) and am torn whether to keep this room or book a Sky Suite (which costs $1,500 more). Any thoughts?
@PhilCatsea6 ай бұрын
Thank you. Personally I would just keep the IV room. Alaska would be so impressive seen through those floor to ceiling windows. Also, the temperature outside will be perfect for opening up the window ( balcony ) unlike in the Caribbean where you let all the AC rush out. IMO save your money for an excursion. Although we didn’t do it I’ve heard great things about the helicopter tours in Skagway. Cheers 🛳️👍🏻
@Steinlage636 ай бұрын
@@PhilCatseathank you! I really love the extra room and the other “extras” that the sky suite has but the cost is now $1,600 more and worry about not being able to use the balcony much due to the cold and rain that could happen.

Thankyou for the video. I will be on the Celebrity Apex next March. It's a family reunion and I am bunking with my 90 year young mom and we need an accessible cabin for my mom to get around in her wheelchair. I am very disappointed that the only accessible rooms all have the infinite balconies. I love looking out at the water and feel like I will probably not like the infinity balcony. It seems to make the room too hot and looks more like a window than a balcony.
@PhilCatsea Жыл бұрын
Hi Liz, Totally understand. In saying that, the full window view is spectacular when at sea. You may find that the infinite veranda is acceptable now that you know what to expect. The ship has a lot to offer so I sincerely hope you enjoy your trip. 😎 Thanks so much for watching🛳️👍🏻

Do those doors to the balcony keep the outside air from heating up or cooling down the room? Like if I want to sit on that balcony with the window down for an hour, but it's 80 degrees outside, is it going to heat up the room even if you close the balcony doors?
@PhilCatsea Жыл бұрын
Yes. Those doors aren’t sealed. They help but don’t stop the room from heating up. Plus, as I recall, when the window is down the AC turns off.

I’ve watched 4 year old reviews of the edge where the hinged doors were clear. More recent reviews show them obscured. It seems like they may have added film to the once clear doors. No idea why as I’m already mixed on the infinite balcony but the obscure doors for me is a deal breaker.
@PhilCatsea Жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve seen that also. I’m not sure what they are thinking? For us it’s not a deal breaker. We will try one of the newer edge class ships in the future ( beyond, ascent etc) but only if the price is right. Plus they do have a few “traditional balconies “ so maybe try one of these? Thanks for watching 🛳️👍🏻 Cheers.

It is a hard decision for me to make so any help would be greatly appreciated!
@Assassin1959 Жыл бұрын
The bar at the window eye level when you're sitting has to be high enough to prevent stupid people from accidentally fall and kill themself. Also parents that shouldn't be parents that let their kids do what ever they want and do not watch them at all because they on a vacation and expect everyone else take care of their kids, well that window is high enough to hopefully prevent kids from falling too. If you don't want the mirror to fog, turn the temp up and wait a little bit before you open the window.
@PhilCatsea Жыл бұрын
All good points and they all apply to a traditional balcony room also. The window can be locked as to not open as can a door to a traditional balcony. The height is awkward for the chairs they provided and also the thickness of the rail. The height of the rail is not the issue. As for the fogging of the glass… I don’t know of too many people that want to warm up the room past the dew point just to sit on their balcony. And it’s not just the mirror it’s all surfaces. Thanks for the input and the opinion as I am sure someone will find it helpful. Thanks for watching 🛳️👍🏻

@PhilCatsea Жыл бұрын
Ours never squealed … but so slow. LOL
@grantf85878 ай бұрын
These cabins are truly awful. the captain has an override switch and in the case of light wind, rain or cleaning they get locked due to health & safety so you can not open the window so in reality you pay for a balcony/window but are stuck in an oceanview also extremely slow and noisy to open as well as the air conditioning being turned off automatically when you lower the window..... when you are sitting down with the window lowered it is at eye level so you have no view looking out when seated......
@PhilCatsea8 ай бұрын
All good points and all true. That being said they do have an appeal to many people. In the end it’s the individuals vacation and money so the choice is up to the individual. Thanks for the comment👍🏻
