65 and still kicking, what a living legend. I really don't get people who say that his voice is gone and he doesn't sound good any longer. Obviously he isn't 20 anymore and you can hear the miles on his clock, but sill, for a 65 old man who was away from stage for like 10 years, didn't practice anymore and is nearly deaf along other issues, he sounds still pretty amaizing. Most people will never be able to sing like this even in their prime. Just listen at around 4:40 and tell me he can't sing anymore again, bullshit.

Wow. This version has more power than any song I've ever heard, except maybe from Jimi Hendrix. It gave me chills. Can you hear the cold anger, the building war cry and the thunder of the drums? This is no song about shaming a man he saw at a brutal drowning (the legend), or even about an angry divorce (Phil's explanation). It's cold rage at the slaughter of innocents, and the children who survived but will never forget or forgive. A war song.

TO PHIL COLLINS & GENESIS: I sure wish Phil & Genesis would make a pit stop in Nashville, Tennessee during their 2021 tour! I’ve wanted to see him live since age 5! My parents refused to buy me drums for Christmas, age nine. Instead, I received a huge Yamaha keyboard & would put Phil or Genesis on my 2,000 Watt Pioneer Stereo System & literally shake the chandeliers in the dining room below my bedroom, while pretending to be in his band🤩🤩😂😂! Honestly, I don’t recall a moment of my childhood (beginning at age 3) that I didn’t absolutely love to listen to your music. I’m now 41 & still listening to you & Genesis. I admire your passion & raw emotion placed in your writing, singing & playing.

@@alessandrococco4324 It’s the absolute truth... I don’t know if you’re just a random fan or someone who truly knows him. Although, I possess zero musical ability/talent (even though I attended Belmont University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, which is one of the Top 50 Universities in the U.S. known for the music industry), I’m a die hard fan of music. Phil’s & Genesis’ music set new standards... And, even yesterday in my SUV, “Against All Odds” came on the radio... I blasted it! I will say Mariah Carey did an excellent job singing it on her RAINBOW 🌈 Album. But, that’s b/c she KEPT Phil’s drums & the entire musical orchestration. And Phil’s musical arrangement with Carey’s voice was a home run. It also proved her deep respect for Phil’s original musical arrangement. It’s PERFECTION. The ONE thing I’ve ALWAYS wanted to ask Phil is WHAT is the difference in his drums vs. Ringo’s or Bonham’s or Chester’s or any other drummer? His drumming is an unprecedented sound. It’s never been emulated b/c it can’t be! Before when I’ve asked this question, either no one knows the answer or one person commented that Phil “...uses Toms on his drums.” Well-Since I’m not a musician & have only seen & touched a band drum set up close once in my 42 years... I have no idea 🤷🏼♀️ what that means. I know that Phil’s drum kit seems larger than any other band’s drums I’ve ever seen! Chester’s drums seem equally large, but they’re clearly different. I want to understand the difference. Also, when Phil sings “In the Air Tonight,” is he personally using/controlling a synthesizer himself or is a synthesizer controlled by someone else? I’ve never understood this, either. It seems he made the sound popular & I’ve heard countless R&B singers & even Rappers use this in the studio (via their CDs-Notably T-Pain). How is a synthesizer used by the artist? I always thought it was something the artist sang into in order to alter their voice. I never thought about it being something processed via a computer generated sound b/c how was that even possible in 1981? If you or @Phil Collins or @Genesis can answer my questions, I would genuinely appreciate it. I’m in the process of reading Phil’s book 📖, “Not Dead Yet.” The man is a genius... I admire Phil’s, Tony Banks,’ Mike Rutherford’s & Chester’s abilities more than they can possibly imagine. I’m NOT one to gush & scream over celebrities as I’ve lived in a state amongst equally popular musicians... Even meeting them. Tennessee is well-known (now more than ever before) for the numerous celebrities living here b/c their privacy is respected & there’s zero paparazzi! I’ve never ever asked for an autograph b/c it’s literally considered rude/taboo here! People simply don’t do it. I’ve passed celebrities & waited on them in my former job... I smile 😃 & great them the same as the next person. Their human & want to live normal lives just like everyone else.... Not be mobbed at the mall or theater. I think that’s exactly why so many Hollywood celebrities maintain homes here or altogether moved here. You can have a beautiful home, go out to eat, go to the malls, go to the theater or anywhere in the state & you won’t be approached or mobbed. It just doesn’t happen. I’ve lived here all my life & seen it first hand. In fact, I’ve waited on individuals who I didn’t even know were celebrities. In 2013, I sat next to Prince’s guitar 🎸 player & just listened to him play. I didn’t dare ask him for an autograph or anything personal. He was visiting with a music producer at my apartment complex. They held a social gathering for everyone living there (in the Gulch-Same place Taylor Swift keeps a condominium & is also from Nashville (Hendersonville), Tennessee). It was fun... But, I viewed as a unique experience... Not something to scream about & act a fool! LOL 😂! I AGREED with Phil when he did his guest appearance on “Hard Day’s Night,” “WILL YOU PEOPLE PLEASE SHUT-UP!! I CANNOT HEAR THE BEATLES SING 🎤 & PLAY!” Geez 🙄! The first time I watched the film, my sentiment was EXACTLY the same! LOL 😂! For me, it’s important to comprehend the song lyrics first & foremost. I think that’s due to me being innately philosophical & my love of creative writing. I love music which tells a story. And, yes, Phil... BOTH SIDES is my favorite album! Until just the past month, I had no idea it is also your favorite album. I remember buying it as a Freshman in high school & playing it, as well as, SERIOUS HITS LIVE on REPEAT in my car to the point my friend would take it & threaten to throw it out the window b/c she wanted to listen to the Beatles! LOL 😂! Don’t get me wrong... I love 💕 “I AM THE WALRUS... COO-COO-COOCHU!” But, Phil is on a whole another level of song writing & musical arrangement. He captured me with his third solo, NO JACKET REQUIRED & Genesis’ INVISIBLE TOUCH. From then on... I was hooked! The first time I heard “In the Air Tonight” was watching “Risky Business,” starring Tom Cruise getting down & dirty on the L-Train! LOL 😂! Yeah, Tom was hot & all... But, let’s face the facts: PHIL IS THE ONE WHO TRULY MADE THAT MOVIE SCENE SO UNFORGETTABLE & UNIQUE WITH HIS SONG! Can you IMAGINE watching that scene WITHOUT Phil’s song?! NOPE! I even had a jazz dance routine to that song! As young people are CONTINUING to STILL create beautiful Jazz & Contemporary Dance routines to “In the Air Tonight!” I have to wonder 💭 if he has ever looked it up via KZbin? As well as... I’m assuming HE started the TikTok “In the Air Tonight” Drum Challenge?! If he didn’t start it or hasn’t watched that challenge, he NEEDS to-BAD! It’s INCREDIBLE how inventive people got with that drum beat drop-From kitchen cabinets & drawers slamming, skateboarders going down stairs, bikes going downstairs in a subway tunnel, people stomping down the stairs & then hitting the wall with their hands, falling down their carpeted stairs, plastic containers falling out of the cabinets, to people actually playing their own drums! It’s PHENOMENAL & people OF ALL GENERATIONS! I think 💭 Phil would find it not only hilarious 😂 but also quite inventive & talented! CHECK IT OUT!

I showed my dad this very video about 2 months ago. He commented "He's all up in his nose. He's parodying himself. I don't think I can finish this" and then proceeds to cut the video off at the second chorus. I was damn-near heartbroken. Here's someone who loved " In The Air Tonight", but not realizing the circumstances that Phil was going through. Phil had announced his exit from retirement about 10 months prior of this performance. It wasn't to be the best performance. But damn it for not being on stage for six whole years he sounds fantastic. His voice isn't the same, and he has to almost re-learn how to sing because he just didn't regularly for so long. Phil, if you ever read this, I wasn't able to see you in concert this past tour, even though it was a personal goal of mine. You sound fucking amazing, and would be an honor to see you live, much less meet you. I am one of your biggest fans and one of the biggest fans of Genesis. Your music changed my life when I was 11 years old and I felt like I finally found my taste in music for good. I am forever in your debt, and you ever need a guitarist to play "Throwing It All Away" or another voice for "Easy Lover", I'll be right here. -Dak.

It's very strange I have such a weird esoteric bond with Phil Collins even though I never met him. I don't see him as this superstar thats like a mirage but I also dont see him an ordinary person either. This unique unexplainable aura about him is what I find so entertaining.

Um, there was a little show called Miami Vice that featured this song, but you reference a GTA game that references that show? Maybe I'm just showing my age, even if it is just 32.

I watched gta series videos do the mission where Phil performed this song and Vic had to protect him and I must say... I was blown away hearing this song in the game. Wish I heard it before, and if I did, I wish I paid more attention to it.

Panie Phil Collins. To było zajebiste. It's a beautiful. Jeden z najlepszych, albo najlepszy kawałek Pana. It's the best of your songs, maybe ever best. Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski. Greetings from Poland.

Phil's son did a damn good job on the drums. If I can give a major suggestion to all drummers... Please look into those newer drummer support chairs that help keep your back in good shape and/or I have seen some drummers have drummer lift setups where by a push of a button you can change the drum heights so you can play sitting then decide to raise them up and play standing. I think changing your position during a concert and practices throughout the time you play can help keep back issues at bay. I NEVER got to see Phil live except here on KZbin and my pray at some point soon his health will amend somehow so he can once again play drums. I have seen recent video and interviews where you can see not being able to play the drums has really taken a toll on his soul. I am wishing for good will and healing for you Phil. Stay strong and remember... ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

Still remember this song. I have to say I still like you and your songs since I first heard them on youtube early on in 2009. I may not have grown up with your music, but music transcends generations especially when those generations have great taste in music.
