Dude an OD boat?! A blue bimmini?! Your killing me pls say they don't make them in camo or you are to cheap to take blue to canvas shop! I'm embarrassed for you being that guy on the water but look at your seats?! I notice your high buck$ Etec though out performances 4strokes bulletproof and no matinance 3 yrs min

Kenneth, there's a lot more to picking colors than pleasing your fine taste in luxury craft like mine. The camo tops are fine if you duck hunt (I gave that up years ago). Other than that, the most important color to have on your boat is one that can be seen. I run lines on the Missouri River (man stuff)... not like lounging in the Grand Marais while sipping fruity drinks. Barges and other boats need to see me. You don't want to blend in for obvious reasons (to some) for safety issues. It's why life vests are usually designed in bright colors. Hope this helps you change your opinion....it might save your life. Pick out what sticks out and don't get your Gucci shoes wet, Kenneth! Thanks again for the fashion lesson. I've enjoyed the comment. I needed some entertainment this morning.

First off I want to thank you for making this video, it really helped me install my BIMINI TOP to my 12 ft aluminum fishing boat. Just making this comment to help anybody who watches this video and uses all the original parts. The 6 bolts and locking nuts are all installed on the frame and the 4 thumb screws and nuts are to be attached to the deck mount so you can take the top off without a screw driver. In this video you show using the thumb screw to attach the poles and the after market parts for the deck mount. Again this was a great video!

Nice video. One quick suggestion for the straps, especially if your bimini doesn't have the rear support poles and uses straps in that location: Put one twist in the strap before clipping it to the strap eye. This will keep it from vibrating when you're moving at speed.

Phil - thanks for this great video. So very helpful! We bought this exact bimini so we could follow your instructions. The instructions that came with it are not nearly as good as your video. We have a Lowe boat and ended up putting the short poles in the front and the straps in the back. In the original configuration, the top was angled back too far. But by putting the poles in front and the straps in back, we were able to angle the top slightly forward, which is perfect. Just throwing that out there in case anyone else runs into this issue.

I noticed you have the seat mounts that allow you slide the seats right or left to balance the weight for a comfortable ride. I am putting these in my boat and wonder how you like the sliders? I also noticed you didn’t use the rear slider strip. Is there a reason you chose not to use the rear strip? Thanks.
@PhilCrockett2 жыл бұрын
The sliders are good….. would do them again if I had to start all over. The cons: my leg seems to rest on it, and pressing against it becomes quite uncomfortable. (Leaves a slider mark on my leg). Also, they don’t slide easily, which is also good in a way….but they won’t slide while ur sitting. What’s a slider strip?

I'm just about finished the deck on my 16" Alweld aluminum jon boat.

Yes! I know a lot of people who turn the whole thing backwards. I have a neighbor that installed his that way on purpose. There's no rules really......except of course...... following the max speed rule when the top is up. Drilling holes in your boat is a hard thing to get over, but if you want to have a properly installed top, you will have to do it. It's kind of like buying a new truck.; I have an old friend that says.... when you buy a new truck, you should take a ball peen hammer and lay a dent in the hood, then you can use the truck for what it's meant for. HAHAHAHA! love it!

You are going to LOVE having this. I have recently moved my top more towards the front since I fish mainly for catfish on the river (rod holders are on the back). So now i have 2 positions I can mount in, depending on my situation. Might want to think about that as well. Let me know how it goes.
@Ka3Ty3 жыл бұрын
Good looking installation job. The top isn't big enough to cover much more than the driver, so I need to ask why didn't you mount it about 8 inches further back to better cover the rear seat from sun and rain.
@PhilCrockett3 жыл бұрын
great question! I put A LOT of thought into the positioning of this , and here's what I came up with: 1) The sun is in different positions throughout the day, so depending on when you go out, and the position of the boat, you can be in the shade 90% of the time. stab a beach umbrella in the ground and put a chair under it, and seed what happens throughout the day. The chair will be in full sun at different times. I know this is obvious, BUT there is no difference if you're in a boat. EXCEPT the fact that you can reposition the boat for the best shade. Therefore....putting the umbrella in the general vicinity will work and is truly the best you can do. 2) The position of this one, is as far back as it can go and still fold down perfectly between the motor and seat. 3) The largest amount of open floor space is in front of the rear seat in my boat. This top is far enough forward to shade that main floor board where it's possible for 2 or 3 people to gather if it's raining. (oh yeah...we've done that before with 3 big men huddled together in each other's laps! LOL) 4) I can (and have) kept dry, because the top barely covers the seat I'm sitting on. Plus..... it actually helps to have the top as much forward as possible while it's raining, because I'm usually hauling butt to get back to the boat ramp, and the more forward the top, the less rain hits me when I"m cruising. Once again.... really GREAT question, because I spent a lot of time thinking about this before drilling holes in my boat. Would I have repositioned this another way if I had a chance??? Absolutely not. It's as perfect as I can get it. THANKS for watching and commenting, my friend! Maybe your question will guide someone else into thinking about this before drilling! God bless you!
@Ka3Ty3 жыл бұрын
@@PhilCrockett You spoke a mouthful when you said it's the only spot it can go and still fold down perfectly, so sure I understand why now. I probably go out by myself the most and would probably want to cover me as well as possible. I think there are one's made with straps on both front and rear making it adapt to where you want it at that time, but no sire?
@PhilCrockett3 жыл бұрын
Some people actually install it backwards on purpose in order to laying it forward. This would be ideal for a guy that fishes by himself. It really does get in the way when fishing from the back like I do in the river.

Great video but I ordered the deck hinges that you used and the concave does not fit flush to the rail. We have the exact same boat. It looks like your hinges dont quite fit perfect either. Have the hinges being slightly raised caused any problems for you? I have searched the web endlessly and I do not believe they make this hinge in the proper size which would be 1 inch and not 7/8" or 25mm vs 22mm. Do you have any advice?
@PhilCrockett4 жыл бұрын
There's not a perfect / custom fit hinge for every application. However, this is a fantastic 'curve' because it plants well, where a flat base would 'rock' and not plant. Does that make sense? Anyway.... I would make this purchase all over again.

6:02 can see your Bimini top tag towards the front of the boat, is It back to front?
@PhilCrockett4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Nathan. I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'll try to answer. I think you are wondering if the front has the tag? ... On this model it does. at 0:32 in the video, you can see it labeled "FRONT". I don't know if other brands have this or not. plus.... the zipper pocket always goes in the back. Just a fun side note here....... I do know of people that install these tops backwards on purpose. Some people perfer the top to fold forward into the boat. I believe they do this in order to fish from the back, especially in a river situation where the back is downstream when anchored. It's pretty difficult to fish from the back in a river with this top up. I hope I answered your question. If not, please let me know.

I do, however, keep it up when towing the boat because I'm approximately 1 mile from the boat ramp to my house and i drive slow. Thanks for the comment, and watching my video. Please share it with our other fishing and boating brothers out there. I love the views!

What length jhonboat. I have the same style boat but it's a 14foot.. my haul wit is 59inch At the back of the boat. My opinions are looking like a 2 bow which doesn't offer much cover

My jon boat is 16'. It's a 1648 Lowe MV

Awesome vid! Do you trailer it with the canopy tucked in boot in upright position or do you collapse the whole thing?
@PhilCrockett4 жыл бұрын
Collapse it for sure if you are driving over 35 mph. Glad you like my video, Jonathan! Hope you find my other ones just as useful.

Would be great if you could let us know what the length and width of your boat is.. I have a 12' long Aluminum boat with a V hull and I still have no idea which size Bimini I need to order for it..
@PhilCrockett6 жыл бұрын
This is a 1648 Lowe...... which is boat lingo for 16' long, and 48" floor width. This boat's width from rail to rail at the widest spot is 69". Hope this helps you out.

Thanks one of the other comments/questions gave me the answer to how to measure for the top. I have a 14' jon boat and want to get a top to take the wife and dog with me fishing. Where did you get the curved mounts for the rails? Thanks again.

Looking for a bimini to fit a 49.5 in. Beam boat. It's a 12 ft. Sears gamefisher. Any suggestions?
@PhilCrockett2 жыл бұрын
I simply searched on-line. Most sites that sell these have many options according to your measurements.

This shows a quick glimpse of my front seat build. I welded a frame for a battery box and put a seat on top. Not sure if this will help you, but maybe it will give you an idea.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5eVY618hqZjldk

This same Bimini top would fit my 12 FT Jon boat, opposed to a 14 FT Jon boat?.
@PhilCrockett4 жыл бұрын
It's more about the width than it is the length. Measure the length of your beam and check it against the specs on which ever bimini you go with. Here's a link to the one I bought. if this doesn't load, then go to my video description for the link. Hope this helps. www.amazon.com/dp/B07C1P6X6J/...

@@PhilCrockett thanks for you help, after leaving my comment with you, I ordered a Bimini from my local boat dealership, I gave them the width measurement at the widest point from the starboard side to the portside of the boat, which measured 50 inches, around 1.3 to 1.5 meters wide, the top of the Bimini I ordered the dealership told me measures 1.2 meters wide, a little less then the poles that mount to the boat.

What size drill bit did you use ?
@PhilCrockett5 ай бұрын
I always size it smaller than the screw. Never really look at actual 'sizes'... just compare to the screw.

You ever try putting a hand rail around the boat

I haven't done that.

So to trailer the boat do you fold to the front or rear
@PhilCrockett5 жыл бұрын
I usually fold back towards the rear, just in case the wind grabs it. However, yesterday I folded forward, because I had a bunch of junk sitting in the back, and I was too lazy to move it out for such a short ride to the boat ramp. I just tied the whole thing down so the wind won't catch it.

Does the top effect your boat from planing out or cause alot of drag?
@PhilCrockett5 жыл бұрын
Nope. however, be aware that there is a maximum speed with bimini tops up. This one is 35 MPH. if going over that, then the top needs to be put down.
@kylewoodward70785 жыл бұрын
@@PhilCrockett thanks brother. I appreciate the response and info. I'm going to get one, I just was worrying about the drag and planing.
@PhilCrockett5 жыл бұрын
Ya... definitely get quick-release pins for it. You won't be sorry. I find myself taking it up and down a lot more than I expected. When I'm running bank poles on the river, I take it down due to tree branches, then put it back up on the ride back. Also..... it's way easier to fish out of the back of the boat the top is down. OR..... fish out of the front with the top up.
