Just an update buddy, im sure your missing the ol gal. A year on and 3000 miles in. I've treated it to a valve clearance check, chain and sprockets, filter, oil, front exhaust gasket was blowing, local repair garage for the total sum of £400. And today i fitted a new pair of £220 Black widow silencers. I like it so much I decided to get it sorted. Touring Wales shortly on it.👍

That's great to hear, nice one. I bet it sounds mean with the Black Widows. I checked on my old one the other day, looks like it's still going :) Good luck with the tour!

I'm on my 3rd 500S. It's a 1997 P 27k. Great condition. Use it to work and back as the car bores me to tears, unless it's raining. It's quick, does 50-70mpg. Tyres are cheap. Uses not a lot else. It's a bit lumpy low down but once above 7k it shifts. Will cruise at 80 with enough in reserve. Cost me £1350 with new tyres, chain, sprockets and new MOT. Bargain of the century. I've a ZX9R for travelling across to Belgium.

I had a black n red one about a dozen years ago.I'm nearly 60 now and have had dozens of bikes but the GPZ always stuck with me in my mind so I'm about to buy another.It was mint,and I never had one negative comment about being a fully grown adult on the little GPZ.Great things.

That's great! As much as I miss mine for it's fun and character, I really couldn't own another. Too uncomfortable for me on my wrists and lower back. Enjoy your new GPZ!

Proof right there you don't have to spend £20K to have some great biking / touring stories and memories. The Gentlleman Biker was great. I used to love his videos.

You can get a 15 to 20 years old bike that is just fun as any new one in my opinion. Drop by mate, you may like my content. :)

Ah, that's a shame Phil, like you said, they're must be so many memories in all those miles, but I bike needs to be ridden so its totally understandable of course..hope we get to see it again before it goes, rsmf, Mark

Just got my first brand new bike since 1982, a 2022 Honda NC750X DCT. I hope "Monte" can give me the same sort of good service and great riding memories as your beloved GPz500S.

@Jeff Gravitt Cripes! You must be as old as me! I bought my first new bike in '76....and my last new one in '85.... I still have that one....it's a Honda! I'm sure that Monte will serve you well.

It makes sense to sell it, let someone else enjoy it! 🙂 It is weird, I have not often got sentimental about saying goodbye to a bike until recently.

Glad to hear you still got the Tiger, l still have mine, but l have come close to trading it in. It’s all now paid for (pcp finance, don’t do it folks) Every time l go out on the Tiger l think no don’t sell her your having to much fun on it, so sod the shiny new bike syndrome and be happy!
@Phil4802 жыл бұрын
Fully agree with not doing PCP, I made that mistake with the Scrambler. I'll admit, I do get tempted by the newer Tigers now and again, so far I'm managing to keep the shiny new bike syndrome away 😀

How did I miss watching this video?? We never did get that GPZ500 ride together. Mines gonna be stripped down and cleaned up soon. It’s been 4 years since my last effort. How’s your Triumph with doing the work commute nowadays? I imagine it’s nicer than it was on the GPZ500.

People come to bike meets on 125cc bikes without issue. This bike would outpace an 1800cc harley

Nearing 100k miles??? I thought 50k was high mileage for a sports bike. There’s one from 92 in my city with 53k. Owner says it’s good condition. I discarded it because I thought it was too many miles but if it’s still viable then i might just reconsider it.
@Phil4805 ай бұрын
I guess for most people, 50k miles is a lot for a bike that would generally be used throughout the summer. I was using my GPZ all year round. With regular use and servicing, a high mileage bike shouldn't be too much of a cause for concern. I'd sooner go for a high mileage one with service history to back it up over something that has low miles but has been sat garaged for long periods of time.

A sad day indeed, but we all have to move on. As for the car pulling up next to you; I call it 'The Lemming Effect' which derives from my view that Humans actually evolved from Lemmings. Try this test: Find an empty restaurant/cafe and sit down. Now where does the next customer sit, or be sat by staff??? Guaranteed it will be the next table. Same applies to empty car parks. Why? it's complicated.
