I had a tough time with Riverworld when the books were coming out in print. In 2011, after back surgery, I was advised to walk as often as possible. I gave Riverworld another chance, this time in the form of audiobooks on my walks, and I couldn't get enough! Around that time I read that my favorite series, Zelazny's Amber was inspired by Farmer's World of Tiers. Now, after reading and listening to the 10 Amber novels multiple times, I'm desperate to find audio versions of the World of Tiers series. Where?! Anyone?!

I've read most books and short stories by PJF at worst they have interesting ideas and at best he can be brilliant. Dayworld imo should have been trimmed to one book. One thing ive always liked about Farmer is that he was great at naming characters

If you get a bit of perspective on the World of Tiers series you'll see that it assumes the breakdown of a civilisation that could create pocket universes. Breakdown was caused by the invention of the Black Bells. The situation othe series is that the immortal Lordsof these pocket universes are driven mad by boredom and so indulge in a deadly game of trying to defeat their fellow-Lords and so gain xtra universes. The cap on all this of course is their ancient siscovery that the Earth itself is a pocket universe and they too are puppets.
