Early Rabbinic Judaism has an incredibly rich and complex demonology. In the the hundreds of pages of the Mishnah and Talmud are to be found dozens of discussions of the origins and various species of the demons (mazzikin, shedim & rukhot), where they haunt, some of their personalities and names, how to detect and see them, how many there are, how to dispel those that cause sickness, even how they can be useful and tales of their king (Ashmedai) and queen (Agrat bat Makhlat). Join me as I explore the world of the demons as described in this vast and wonderful literature. (pictured - Contemporary depictions of bound demons, including Lilith with 'wild' hair, from incantation bowls, an early Talmud MS, and some pesky mazzikin)

while this has only a few comments, I just wanted to say thank you for making some of the more esoteric elements of Judaism more accessible to non Jews. as someone with an interest in the religion, it can be hard to read some sources without getting completely lost.

while I appreciate the sentiment, they are difficult to read for a reason. It is easier to understand the full material if you are well versed in Talmud and other Jewish texts for the exact reason that one is, then, knowledgeable in Judaism. This material doesn't quite make sense without it, and if one is wanting to learn one can find a rabbi to ask questions to. The religion is the people, and the people is the religion, which is MUCH different from the "understanding" that a religion is a "faith" instead of a cultural practice.

The thing about demons being so vast that if you could see them they would be all you can see is so evocative and it reminds me of dreams I had in my youth. Strange forms I couldn't look away from because they occupied all of my senses.

My grandfather believed ill will (unconscious thought) caused demons that were more a result of extreme emotions that react and act like I suppose nature spirits. He believed we create our own demons, because eventually those angry thoughts come back home. He also believed groups of people could manifest storms. Weird huh?

Isn't that thought forms? The idea that our thoughts interact with the astral plane and create what essentially are entities there but they are still connected to the mind that originated them? I mean, as far as I understand (and I understand very little) they are temporary unless you cut them off and make them an entity of their own.

When bunch of brainlets huddle together mentally you get an 'egregore' a sort of somewhat conscious entity but that exists to feed and spread but not like a demon or angel , an egregore is a sports club, a nation, a political or social movement or viral trend etc... Look around most people dont think for themselves their thoughts and beliefs are automated by the dominant egregore(especially in west), why did people at certain point in time in certain culture think alike? Because dominant egregore in that culture existed ,its like ant colony hive mind consciousness . It wants to spread and gain more adherents to believe or be against it and exert as much as emotional energy towards it as possible (example pointless political arguments everywhere and people getting over emotional all time over it)... There are many things like this and most people have 0 awareness of these things and live automated like plants... Demons are a separate story.

Yeah, God was supposed to have created multiple beings, djinn/demons being one of em 🧞‍♀️ not to mention in Quran Jinn can be Christian and such… and if you check the bible there are actually many instances where demons will literally bow to divine beings/God. So personally i believe that lore, they were created by “smokeless fire” (plasma? some etheric energy?)

Its not in the Book of Enoch, which has the Watchers fall later.... but it all depends on what you mean by "genuine" as if Judaism has a pope who is infallible or something. Check out "Legends of the Jews" which you can find online, by Louis Ginzberg, guy also literally wrote the Jewish Encyclopedia, and the stories are based on Rabbinic and other teachings, well footnoted.

There is The Encyclopedia of Jewish Myth, Magic and Mysticism by Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis which has a lot of stuff about Jewish demonology and other supernatural goings on catalogued in one place. It's broad, not deep, but many of the entries have enough citation of sources that it's possible to use it as a starting point with a wayfinding map.

I have zero interest in a debate. However, I'm happy to discuss these aspects of Rabbinic Judaism and Kabbalah with a reputable scholar or host. Of course, group supremacy of any kind is morally detestable. There's no denying that such sentiments and statements exist in Jewish literature - including the Hebrew Bible, Talmud, Zohar, etc., - and I find them morally repugnant.

As a chaos magician trying to delve in the paradigm of jewish mysticism and magic, your channel is invaluable, I gotta say, the preparation phase to fully enter this paradigm probably will take about 5 years longer than expected (I thought maybe this gonna take a year) also learning hebrew seems not to suffice, also need to learn aramaic, different dialects and so on. I grew up in a rural region of switzerland, there I was not informed once about anything judaism is about, let alone jewish mysticism or magic; everyone I know seems to know that jews exist,... and that's about it. It's so vast and partially, it even seems unhinged, and I love every bit of it. Thanks for all the great and informative videos Dr. Sledge, blessed be.

Hey, do you mind if I ask what you're intentions are or what you're trying to accomplish when looking into/doing these magics? Is it experimental, to accomplish something, a higher calling? I find this stuff so very interesting, so I would really appreciate any and every bit of information on this to expand my understandings. Also, I understand some of the bigger picture, but I love personal stories/reasonings behind individuals experiences. Thanks!

@user-zq4ov3hb4v 5 ай бұрын
@@lazydoctorr It is going to be tough to summarize all what happened, I felt, experienced and witnessed, but it is an evening I have nothing planned anyways, so I will give a it a try: Born as a catholic, I felt, that the way of the catholics won't allow me to truely connect with god, or do "miracles" (aka Magic) by myself, so at about 13 I first found about chaos magic, but I didn't engage in it then, I read a bit about the IOT in switzerland by a PDF of their "Pact" on their website (but it seemed they already had disbanded or were close to disbandement, anyway, I lived with my parents back then and it seemed to be impossible to join them anyway, as they met too far away for a teen without car or money for public transportation) and also I couldn't see much written in it ("Pact" document) that would grasp my interest. At the same time I grew more and more frustrated with catholizism, and expressed my frustration through black metal, pretty lousy black metal in hindsight. I became quite fascinated with the occult, namely Alleister Crowley, but I also was aware of how he ended up, so I didn't engage in his practices. What truely started my journey into magic is something that seems to be laughable, but even though any serious occultist or magician would make fun of you for it, it was the book "The Magic" by Rhonda Byrne (yeah, the pop-culture author who wrote "The Secret" prior to that book), which I got during holidays in schottland as a "free-be" to an other book in a nice bookstore (can't remember the other book or the name of the store). This book contains 28 exercises about gratitude to be done during 28 days, first exercise and second exercise to be done everyday (exercise one, in the morning, write down 10 things you are grateful for, and feel as much gratitude as possible towards each thing and say thank you three times, second exercise, grab a rock and every day before going to bed, grab the rock and think about the best thing that happened during the day, then feel as grateful as possible for that event or gift or whatever while holding the stone), also you write down some goals you have and such. While this is more of a self-help book, it had quite the impact on me, as I managed to get rid of my nicotine addiction, found my first love, had my first band with some shows and so on, so at that time, I probably wa happier than ever before, as I changed my perception of reality, I basically brainwashed myself to be happy, and people would literally say thank you for talking to them, that never happened before. As I found my first love through this, I spent much time with her and really didn't give much thought about this book or magic anymore. After five years we parted ways, and I thought about my live before her to find some ideas what I could do with my time being. I somehow stumbled across chaos magic again through a music album I found and listened on youtube, so I thought to myself, yeah well, maybe I can read a book about it to understand it, as I still had no idea about it. So I ordered "Liber Null and Psychonaut" by Peter J. Carroll. While I read it, many strange things happened; for example a girl recommended me a series "Umbrella Corp"; while downloading it, I came across the term "raison d'etre" for the first time in Carrolls book, but sure enough, when I started to watch the series the same day, the term was uttered there aswell. This was the start, then it got way more intense; I read about prescience, and the same day, I overtook another car while driving, about 500m later, a traffic light turned red, shortly before I could pass it, so I stopped and the man who drove the car, which I just overtook, got out of his car, walked to my car window, so I rolled the window down, and he said "I knew the traffic light would turn red soon" turned his back and went back to his car, which was extremly weird, but it aligned perfectly with the lines I read prior that day in liber null. From there on, my initial scepticism started to shatter. When I arrived at a female friends house after this weird encounter, I thought to myself "all right, so prescience seems possible, let's try it out"; I asked her to play Yatzi, and as we started, I would say the end result of her three throws before she even started to shake the mug with the dice. After five or so entirely correct predictions, she asked me to stop, as she felt weirded out and scared, so I stopped doing that. I don't know if I am a good narrator, so if you would like me to continue I will continue to write some other evening, otherwise this is going to be an exercise in futility to continue so I can stop right here😄

@@user-zq4ov3hb4v that was a fun read, yeah so when did it start getting really intense or in your control?! Do you correlate any of these odd events with space, or anything on a cosmic level? Also, I'm curious, so you haven't dealt with the occult then ever, huh?

@@lazydoctorr Well, as these things started to occur, I got quite fascinated by the possibilities at hand, and as chaos magic "motto" is to try as much as possible to find what works, I did just that for starters and delved deeper and deeper into all forms of magic and the occult day by day; anyway to continue from where I ended in the last comment; Astonished by these events I decided to start taking action, so the first magical practice I actively did, was sigil magic as described in Liber Null. I did meditation to reach gnosis (state to overcome the "psychic censor", being void of awareness of dualities, being only oneself as a singularity, described as "Kia" or "Soul" without any properties, hence singularity, as there is no counterpart to it), to find and write down my "true will". So after I got it noted down, I did the steps to 'craft' a sigil from the written sentence. A possibility of manifesting the expressed will is by meditating with the sigil in sight or if possible in front of the inner eye. As I was still untrained in holding a stable image in my minds eye, I put a sketch of the sigil on a chair in front of me during a meditation (eyes opened, sight focussed on the sigil), now during the meditation, a cat (from the female friend, in whose appartment I was at that time) jumped on the chair, in front of the sketch. The speakers of my female friends T.V. hissed in voice of an actor (probably from a T.V. show) "Verpiss dich!" ("Piss off" in german) (the tv was turned off before that, uttered these words without images on the screen and then was turned off again), and the cat immediately jumped off the chair. This was quite unusual, as I after meditation turned on her T.V., the T.V. first showed the moving image of a show on screen and only after two or three seconds the sound was added. So it was not even by coincidence possible the event that happened, would occur naturally. The events I described in the first comment, were all "naturally" possible as coincidences, but this wasn't, it was the first truely "paranormal" encounter. Even though this may not seem impressive, I was quite excited, as I caused a paranormal event for the first time and without even the intention to cause it. Anyway I have to go on with work now, so I will continue writing later, but to answer your questions; there were some cosmic level experiences one oddity with time even, and boy have I dealt a lot with what one would consider as occult, but I will get to that.

@@lazydoctorr Part 3: Now with my first paranormal experience, I trusted that magic is actually possible for the first time, and the sceptic aspect in me got demolished day by day, as while I kept up with meditation, I kept being right with predictions (for example my mother read a newspaper and said that a boy my age just died the day prior, I just asked, without any further pondering "Let me guess, it was Lukas?" (I don't know anybody with the name Lukas at my age) and she astonishedly said yes and showed me the newspaper, in which this boys obituary was printed, and sure enough, I didn't know him and his name was indeed Lukas; or predicting songs that would come up next on spotify while playing my playlist with over a thousand songs, played on random; predicting glass would shatter (in my mind) and seconds after that people would drop their glass and it shatters, feeling my friends cat on my lap during meditation, but when I open my eyes, I would see the cat only entering the room at that moment and then jumping on my lap, and so on) and doing magical work showing desired results. So as I guess this would be the thing you are most interested in, I will try to describe the techniques as clear as possible, so in case you want to try some of them for yourself, while going on with the temporal story line: I finished reading Liber Null and right away picked up a next book immediately afterwards, which was "Condensed Chaos" by Phil Hine. His writing style, intellect and ethics are very questionable, yet nevertheless I read his version of servitors with great interest. For him Servitors are basically "entities" you craft in your mind and which are not real to the world but only to yourself, thus they will only be able to change aspects of your perception, character or motivate you in achieving goals. I then thought, why not combine this with actually creating / enslaving a "real" aetheric (or spectral or however you may call the realm of spiritual beings) being, and then bring it to do what you ask it for. To try this, I set the goal on gaining a romantic partner, who is sharing certain interests with me, described her age and looks in detail and noted everything down. Then I "created" a "Demoness", who I set up with the task, to make it happen that I would meet the described romantic partner and that she may fall in love with me. For this I also had to exactly describe the demoness, write down her character, how to exactly pray to her and for how long, as she would assumingly want something in return for bending to my will. So I detailled a description of her looks (that's pretty irrelevant I guess, but picturing the entity helps to make it appear real in ones mind), her name (so you can call upon her, connect a concept/ideas to a name), her sigil (connected symbols for the beings traits and what it shall do for you), and how to pray to (a prayer can not only be something, that would be some classical forms know from religion, it is simply an act dedicated to the aetheric being, can be drinking a glass of whine, going for a walk etc. but I came up with mastu--ating on the sigil of the entity; as or-asm is a great way to reach a short-lived state of gnosis, and being dedicated to the aetheric being is most effectful at that state. I also defined to what exactly I was to ma--urba-e to, to make a connection to the desired traits of the female romantic partner, and then doing this prayer daily for six days (which again, can be freely set, I decided for 6 days, because of my religious heritage, in which it is said to rest at the seventh day)). So after six days of praying to the created demoness, I installed tinder on the seventh day. After setting up my profile with minimal effort, I got some matches at the start who were not what what I searched, but in less than 10 Hours of having this app installed, I swiped through the app until I stumbled a profile, in which the exact interests I was asking for where in the bio of a girl who looked exactly as I described before starting the prayer. So I gave this woman a like, and within a minute she liked me back and we started texting and during the first hour of texting, she agreed to a date and gave me her number. I started dating her and she fell in love with me pretty fast. It felt pretty wrong for me, so I ended the relationship after a month or so, leaving her devastated, which made me feel bad aswell, but less bad than keeping up the relationship that was forced through some magic. I will continue later, but in case you have any questions about the practices mentioned so far, feel free to ask.

way late, but I would not recommend buying a copy of the talmud. the artscroll edition, for example, is 73 volumes and will run you a couple thousand dollars. VERY long and its impractical esp if youre probably not going read all of those. theres a lot of online versions of it though--I recommend Sefaria, for ease of use

When you say the demons are connected to bathrooms, in this context, does that mean a privy or a room for bathing? Just wondering if the connection was more with filth and waste, or with air and water.

I was very surprised to know demons and bathrooms is a thing, a demon or some might call it a jinn enter my flat via the bathroom. I did hear a loud thud in the batch room, like something really heavy just landed. middle eastern people have a lot of knowledge about this, that is pre Islamic, but what i found out it has something to do with with filth and waste that. but it is not just waste and filth they like to hang around depressing places even if people are no longer there, abandon prisons are filled with demons. Not all demons are connected with bathrooms it seems just to be the, ifrit type these are your classical demons with horns and they can project heat to attack people. i know this from having first hand experience, they do not speak they only growl. i guess that is why middle eastern people do not joke around and keep their bathrooms spotless clean and smelling fresh.
