Here’s a couple of things that I got wrong, I am sure there’s more! The Creator’s combo doesn’t come with the pro mist filter. The Pocket 2 add on isn’t a battery but it’s called a “do it all handle” to add connectivity with the wireless mic and WiFi to the Mimo app. Sharpness and noise reduction were added via firmware in to the Mini 3 Pro. This was the first drone/ camera from DJI to get this feature! The Air 3 was the first new drone to have this on release, followed by the Mini 4 Pro. My memory course with old age!!l You can see loads more of Archie and how he got on after his journey at Instagram.com/1man5cats

So do I have to buy another battery? My creator combo arrives tomorrow; I’m not sure if I need to order an Osmo pocket 3 battery accessory for it before I take my sailboat to Catalina Island off of the Southern California coast with my wife soon. Once there we will meet up with two guests who will be joining us there. I’m looking forward to taking some great footage of all of the fun that will be happening when we all meet up with other folks from our yacht club. There will be some fun events to take videos of, such as “dinghy” rides in Avalon Harbor, cocktails aboard at Five O’clock, and dinner ashore later on Saturday night. Here is to hoping I will learn and become familiar enough with this amazing camera to take some great footage to share with all of our friends!

Thanks Phil. What a camera! Shame about the low light limitations but on a tiny sensor this is still a great achievement. Other influencers are pointing out that DJI are listening to what people want far more than the legacy camera makers. I want to see Sony give us features like this in their flagship Android phones as well as building a standalone competing camera. This camera is less than $500 with a lens and does compete very well against $2000 + camera bodies.

The only thing that excites me more than a Denis Villeneuve film is a Philip Bloom camera review. I absolutely love the Osmo Pocket 3 - I’ve owned them all and this is the first one I actively find myself carrying on a day to day basis. When accompanied with the A7siii it’s a powerful combo for narrative / b-roll shots. This epic review is bloody well timed as I’m currently on a two week cycle trying to work out how to film it (right now the Ace Pro on the handle bars) and I’m toying with clamping the Osmo Pocket on to the bike instead tomorrow. Thanks as always for an incredible review man, it’s given me plenty to think about for tomorrow!
@philipbloom8 ай бұрын
Cheers Chris. Deffo use the Ace Pro on a bike. Electronic stabilisation in the free frame mode will be waaaaay better! You’ve got that tillable screen too which will be great for checking the shot. I’m in Maidstone today by the way.

Get down the Chequers Centre where dreams come true 😅 The mounting system has been a god send for clipping off and on for vlogging and the screen is wonderful. Seems to be more reliable than GoPro so far too (not that it’s hard!)

@@AbroadinJapan You should be resting to get the energy for tomorrow's ride! Then again this is a PB video; what better way to get some inspiration in. BTW if you can figure out how to get the Pocket 3 working with Pete's stream bag, that would be the ultimate stream setup! His wobble can get nauseating. Great job on the ride today, those hills were brutal!
@MrEGTF8 ай бұрын
Sometimes I forget Chris is a camera nerd despite all his cinematography, and then he pops up like this. How have you been carrying it around? What has been your usual use case? I'm tempted by it partially because it's like having an A7SIII in your pocket and the adage of "the best camera is one you'll use", but bunging it in a jacket pocket with just that hard cover on I'm worried how long that gimbal would stand up. But if it means always carrying it in a (albeit small) camera bag or backpack then that's a barrier to impromptu filming/might as well use a phone & carry a gimbal. Even though weirdly I think it's way less imposing using it to film people/places/yourself than a regular mobile phone let alone a mirrorless. It's cute and inconspicuous from my impressions.

Holy batman! f2.0! on a one inch sensor! WOW. My rx10 mark 2 had that AMAZING f2.8 constant lens and the shallow DOF and low light you can get is outstanding on that camera still. this is the first I have seen a one inch camera actually be used by having a good lens on the front. That would be an outstanding companion to any camera, truly awesome.

Excellent and inspiring review as usual. I think easily the best part of the Pocket 3 is that it's small and easy to have with you. I remember watching a Digital Rev video (back when they were a thing) and they made you shoot a video with a barbie doll and you said something like "the best camera is the one you have with you." The Pocket 3, some 10 years later, is the camera that is easy to have with you... and thankfully much better quality than a barbie doll camera. 😂

I Love cats, and I Love My Pocket 3. I also own the original OSMO Pocket. Thanks for doing this review of my now favorite camera Philip. Version 3 is clearly a big step forward in overall quality and features and performance over the first two iterations. I'm not entirely impressed with the OP3 lens. I think it shows noticeable barrel distortion even without using the extra wide angle lens. You don't notice it on landscapes, but you do on certain urban landscapes with perpendicular straight lines. Buildings tend to elongate and lean inward slightly toward the outer edges of the frame. Even with this slight imperfection, the OSMO Pocket 3 is well worth the money. I use my OSMO Pocket cameras mostly for time-lapse work at present, since the easy setup and remote viewing on my iPad Pro provide excellent results. Sit down interviews are a breeze with the OP3.

Yes! Archie made it, I'm so happy! I too have the Pocket 3/Action 4 combo (using bigger cameras while traveling by boat is limiting so their 10bit dlog is a welcome downsize, while their log is really easy to correct and grade) but I'm embarrassed to say it's while watching your great long-form, long-term reviews that i realise how little I'm utilising all their features. Thanks for another great episode. I hope Archie is settling in nicely 😻

@veryboringname.8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the update, it definitely adds a lot more to the early reviews and confirms how big a leap the Pocket 3 is. Cameras like the ZV-1F are definitely in trouble. BTW with regards to the camera head not being able to stow itself with a larger magnetic filter attached, the head eventually turns to face the same direction as the screen, which then goes back into the hard-shell carrying case which in turn protects the filter. There's enough space for the 0.75x filter so any similar ones should fit too. That doesn't help people who carry the camera on its own without the case, but personally I always keep it in the case so it works for me. At this point in time a mechanical gimbal is far better for non-action use, especially in low light and lower shutter speeds. I wonder if EIS can match or surpass a gimbal in those scenarios in the future. There's one issue I have with all your reviews though; I could buy the same camera and lenses but the resulting story never looks and flows as well as one of your camera reviews! You really do a fantastic job picking the right subjects, framing, grading, music to suit everything. It just goes to show skill is more important than equipment - even a Barbie camera can be used to tell a story!
