@@RemiliaVampire This is exactly the kind of attitude that causes others to get angry at those who stand up for men's issues. Yeah male disposability is a huge problem and men face real social issues too, and yes those have been shouted down harmfully in recent years, but THE ISSUES ARE NOT THE SAME and you are NOT HELPING ANYONE by injecting that discourse into this discourse. The word "whataboutism" is usually overused and employed in really wrong problematic ways to just dismiss valid comparisons/points being brought up, I'm usually one of the first to defend the relevance of men's issues to gender-dynamics conversations, but what you are doing here is CLASSIC ACTUAL whataboutism. And it's not helpful, to your cause or any cause. If you care about men's issues then don't contribute to making those-who-care-about-men's-issues look selfish and ready to hijack any other topic. There are more ways to have constructive conversations about men's issues online than there have been at any point in the last 20 years. Have the discourse somewhere it's contextually relevant. Those problems are not the same as the problems being discussed here, and it's categorically not okay to act like they are. If you wanted to specifically talk about how underrecognized and underdiscussed SA of men is, that could be made relevant (and even brought up maturely and constructively depending on how it's injected) but male disposability (anywhere) is not even close to being on the same level as r**e culture in places like India. @benjamin7871 Жыл бұрын
A line of credit is important and necessary for a country to develop. We tend to focus on the examples of failures and not the examples of success’s. Simply forgiving the debt outright is not a realistic solution to the problem either, for a bunch of reasons.
@BarrenBones-t2h Жыл бұрын
It is simple economics: Developing countries with badly run governments, high levels of corruption and a large underground economy are less likely to pay back investors. Therefore they must offer higher interest rates. Higher interest rates means more money spent on repayments. Less money to spend on development. Less development means the country is even less likely to pay back debt, and will receive less government revenue. Government defaults on debt. Millions lose their homes and jobs, extremism and corruption rise. The credit ratings fall even further and even more interest repayments, or IMF loans and spending is cut back, for healthcare, infrastructure. Nobody is preying on the countries. They don't want them to fail and default, they lose their money. But the higher the risk of default, the higher the interest must be. Else investors will just go somewhere better. Alternative is foreign aid that comes from foreign governments, but that is usually a diplomatic tool for the ruling class and doesn't help development either.

And if it comes out that she had a mental snap and went off the deep end then of course the argument will become 'well that missing woman probably just had a mental episode she'll show back up' which will lead to a whole hell of a lot of apathy in an already apathetic society. All it comes down to is freedom of speech and expression and religion is not an exemption. Basically everyone is allowed to express their feelings and opinions and everyone else should just accept that. This works very well, but when it comes to religion it gets a little touchy and often people get offended. I really, reeeaaally hope our government doesn't cave and ban our freedom because of religion. No matter what religion it needs to be able to be questioned and opposed. People do use the laws in Sweden for targeted purposes like in this case but all you have to do is keep your feelings in check and its all fine :)

I did a paper on this a while back. There isn’t any great solution. Forgiveness or defaulting of loans makes acquiring future loans far more difficult. Loan defaults will also crash the local currency. Restructuring of loans almost always comes with requirements that raises taxes in an already hurt country, that more often than not affect the average and poor citizens more heavily. Experts seemed pretty split on what’s the best realistic solution to the issue. IMO it is something that is particularly difficult to solve after the fact. Often times these loans with bad interest rates are taken after better options become unavailable, generally as a result of being deemed unable to pay back the more favorable loans or government corruption issues. But the country’s are often in a position that makes it rather difficult and politically unsavory to not have more loans.
