i appreciate your video. considering this is one of PAL's older planes, the seats still look reasonably fresh & comfortable, and the service and the food much better than other airlines. philippine airlines are currently upgrading their fleet. obviously they can't do it all at once! everyone is such a critic nowadays - usually the people who travel least (or have the least taste) are the ones who BLAH BLAH the most. keep it up! Flown business class few times in the last years with PAL, I can honestly say I am very pleased with FAs hospitality. The cabin was a bit dated and needs some overhaul, and the food was good but an improvement can be review carefully. Bad part, the airport T1 and T2 really needs to be demolish and rebuilt from the ground up. With innovation and careful planning, PAL can take the no.1 spot, IMO!

The only area where I can see improvement is needed is the food portions in some of the main entree dishes. At 10:48, the beef short ribs almost "disappears" next to the rice. In business class cuisine, I don't think it would be acceptable on other carriers. And plating presentation could be better. The mid-flight snack of Arroz Caldo should have small mini sides as accompaniment. Also, was there a cheese/cracker/fruit plate after the entree? I only see dessert. Again, it‘s evident PAL is making big strides, but catering still shows room for improvement.
@travelingfoody5 жыл бұрын
Their catering out of Manila is actually pretty good compared to their out stations. You're right, the portions could use some work. I believe you had a choice of the cheese plate or dessert after the main, but I was too full by then to order the cheese. No side dishes for the arroz caldo, but it was very good and filling. Still a long ways to go for PAL, but things are improving albeit slowly. Thanks for watching and safe travels!

Marcus Fey Thanks for watching, but why yuck? Because it’s not western? lol You probably don’t know, but we Filipinos eat a lot of pork and I’m glad they offered the meal. The meat was a little overcooked, but still very flavorful. Safe travels!
@MarcusFeyFey6 жыл бұрын
I prefer Asian to western food - almost always, English breakfast is awful but Pho, Dosa Masala with sambar, Pad Thai was great. But not so very much Filipino. During my holiday in the Philippines one day I cooked a big pot of veggies because the local cuisine is very fatty and oily. What are you guys doing to the vegetables that are available in stores? It does not go into your cuisine so much. But there is a good side for sharing: When we had Lechón everybody else eagerly took the fatty part and I got to eat the actual flesh. We agree(d) to differ and that's what travel is (also) about. :-)
@travelingfoody6 жыл бұрын
Marcus Fey Thanks for the response and I appreciate your candor. European dishes tend to be quite bland and simple, while Filipino dishes are very complex and a bit overpowering, which explains why you might not like the taste. While it’s safe to say that some Filipino dishes are indeed greasy, not all of them are. You just need to pick the right ones-and we have plenty of veggie dishes that are not greasy. I don’t know about you, but I think part of traveling is experiencing respecting the unique local food & culture of your destination, and not compare them with the ones you’re already familiar with. Thanks again for watching and safe travels!

Nice review. Do they have vegetarian options on their menu? Or maybe off the menu? I know Filipino food tends to have a lot of meat, but just wondered if they're able to accommodate passengers with dietary preferences/restrictions -- in Mabuhay or Fiesta class. I would assume so. I personally avoid PR to overseas destination. The hard product is sorely wanting. This can be seen in the dated configuration of their 777 fleet (2-3-2 on long haul J is just not right). The lounges are so dated as well in MNL (and apparently SFO too). Too bad because the food in J (and even Y) is pretty good and the soft product, especially the service is top notch. I also hate flying into T2 from regional destination as it is such a pain to get through immigration. How was immigration coming into T1?
@travelingfoody6 жыл бұрын
Mike Mejia Yeah The Lounge at SFO was a real let down. I wish all seats had direct aisle access. That would have made a huge difference. The food and service was great, though. We didn’t exit immigration at T1 since we were connecting on another PAL flight at T2, but as you can imagine it was packed and the queues were long. Thanks for the comment and safe travels!

airline is good but the manila airport sucks ass, how many checkpoints do you need! You go through three ,the first checkpoint you go through body scan and metal detector with all your stuff understandable, last one doesn't make sense at all as they make you search your bag at a 3rd checkpoint which is right next to the plane and then they put you in a holding area to which you can't leave and you cant even take your drinks that you bought right next to the terminal that your plane is at on board, I mean your right next to the dam plane and you cant even bring your drinks that you bought at the restaurant next to the terminal that you literaly went through 3 checkpoints to go through.
