Chris will do fine. I waited a bit to see him adjust before I made any comments. The Filipinos think he is great. Chris has won them over with his simple start-up life style. He has turned into a hero for one family. Even though he talks " Me budget, Me budget he found enough to give a neighbor money to rent an Angel costume for a little girl to participate in the local parade ( HE WAS NOT ASKED ) He also gave a young lady money to repair a couple damaged teeth. ( HE WAS NOT ASKED ) He is a good soul and I am pleased to call him neighbor and a friend. Tell your friends about this channel I think it will be fun to watch him grow here.

Get a bed with a canopy at least. The mosquito net is for your health. You get dengue from mosquitos. You can leave the bed with the landlord and maybe have your rent reduced when you leave. You got a good price, same apartment in Cebu City would be at least 3 times the price. The only thing is that there seems to be not a lot to do where you are. You might get bored after a few months.

Funny that I stumble over this nine years after you filmed it... and before you meet Mel and start the family... it looks just like the house near Balibago that we lived in for six months around the birth of our boy Jhed Edgar... same window frames and layout inside. Nice sometimes to look back in time for a few minutes. Mark D Phillips, Sussex England.

I'm in the same situation you are kind of in, came here younger, not even close to retirement but here I can manage it with lower cost. Every where I go people are trying to say I need a girl and try to put me into a relationship. That isn't why i'm here and don't plan on jumping into a relationship until I am good and ready. I got here Dec 28, 2014 and don't plan on getting furniture for awhile either just because I don't know where I'll end up moving too. I think the main part of living happy is living below your means and not having to worry about how your going to pay the bills. Philippines is a great place to be able to do that. :)

Incredible price. I have a 3 story concrete house on the beach (nonoc island ) and a studio apt in Surigao city. 4,500p for the apt. 5,000p house payment ( this is to father in law however so probably cheaper). You are getting an incredible deal. 10 years I was in Subic bay. Average for a tiny place is 15,000p. We paid 10,000p for an apartment there in barretto. Again...a studio. I retired here at 44 straight out of the Army. Doing great.

Chris, You have a great deal on your rental. I am across Bulacan from you and I could find nothing as nice as you have for that money back when we were looking to rent. Maybe I was quoted "the special Kano price,,I do not know? In the gated subdivision where we now own a property, there are a few homes for rent. For those who may wish to compare prices, here is what you get: Some homes are fully furnished and some not, P10,000. Most are three bedroom with two or three CRs. Most have an outside dirty kitchen and many have a full carport. We have a large clubhouse, pool and armed security at every gate. No guy needs a place like this to "batch out" but it is nice. There is a lot of value for approx: $225.00USD/month for those who rent here. Great work on the videos man and do keep Jack on his toes.

This is spaceous for a single person and cheap. will do if you are only on a vacation. You can have the windows installed with mosquito screen tucked in between a 1 x 1/2 piece of good lumber and screwed outside the window. and a screen door at the front and rear door. you can consult your landlord before undergoing improvement so that it can be deducted from your rentals

Mikhail Bulgakov A lot of foreigners don't know what they are missing when they are limiting themselves to only a place or two in the Visayan Provinces. Luzon have more than double the number of provinces(and as cheap if not cheaper) and Bulacan is one of them. They don't like Luzon because Manila is located there but as Travis Kraft said, Manila is where the action is.

I lived there at Clark Air Base in May 1991 right before Mount Pinatubo explosion. I think that you may be young to have heard about it. Before deciding to "live" in RP, you should stay a few months and see what you're getting in to. Why? A sizable percentage of foreigners are unable to adapt to the trials and tribulations of living in a "developing" country like the Philippines. Often, things you take for granted in your home country are either unavailable or difficult to come by. One of my biggest complaints is the unfair stereotype that all foreigners who come to the Philippines are wealthy, thus, they should pay a significantly higher price for products and services than the natives. Not all feel that way about foreigners, but many do, so you must find ways to determine the fair price of whatever you need so you aren't routinely taken advantage of.

Hi Chris, love your videos. I´m a brit also and have stayed twice in Phills, each time for 3 months.Where in gods name is that place of yours for only 2500 php ? i was in Mindanao in 2010,not going back, you probably know why ? and cebu last year. I couldn´t find a place like yours for under 10k. Anyway to cut a long story short i retire next march and i´m coming back to stay so i´m particularly interested in cost of living as i won´t be on a full british pension. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work, George.

Of course there's that type of people everywhere not just asia. But live your life and dont try to make yourself a hero to anyone. Just be who you are and never think that all people are alike thinking that you are a dollar coin with two legs.... Live as the other does Filipino are good enough but know where will you stand. I am a Pinay live and work abroad almost all my life. But whenever I come home I wore wear off clothes and just flip flops no wallets on my hands. But only those close to me, friends or family who always tries to rob me, honestly. We smells like fish so to say. They smells to us the foreign currency. Now its up to you to give or not. Ive been robbed by my family and close friends a tons of time therefore I could relate to what you are saying. Dont ask me how much because you would not believe it. Just started my lufe all over again after that disastrous and hilarious experiences. So I hope you make your retirement meaningful in the Philippines. Because my boss Mr. Muray Hertz loves the Philippines and the Pinoy because he knows how. He rested in Peace there too. He truly love the Philippines.

I met my wife over there 16 years ago and we have been living in the states. I saved my money and bought a house for cash in Zambales for amazing price.BUT you have to really do some searching because homes are more expensive than I would have imagined. If you can manage to do that instead of renting you will be much better off. My only expenses now are food and electric and gas for the care and trike.. Easely affordable and the best way to go if your'e palnning to live there full time.

Problem is you can't own a house unless you are a citizen there. Renting is not a bad way to go there, if you buy a house and all of sudden your neighbor puts up a piggery close to you and it stinks you are stuck, If renting you can always move if you are renting. You can get a nice rental for $250 per month in many places and probably cheaper in the provinces

Nice house for 2500! I don't live full time in the Phils, but I do have a house there and have some college students maintain it for me. I pay 3,000 per month and it's about 2/3 the size of your place - well done! Otherwise, about the same - CR and kitchen are similar. I listened to your cost of living video and concur - you can live cheaply for under $500 usd per month -- just be frugal and don't expect to have an American or European lifestyle. I did furnish my little house with a bamboo living room set - bench, two chairs, and a table - for approx. $50. Good luck and please continue to publish your videos.

Thanks. When I am back in August we can get in touch and meet also in person for sure. There are many of government and non-government organizations registered with the Department of Social Welfare and Developement to assist underprivileged and underserved local communities. They offer various volunteer placement opportunities. So after taifun Yolanda I have stayed on Leyte in Tacloban. In this way you help others a lot, learning the local language and mostly you get food clothes and a place for sleep for your work and sometimes save your own budget complete for month. So I have subscribed and go through your videos now. You are on a very good way there. I am a native German but that´s no option living here at all for me. I also visited the UK very often. Theres a good video about rural living in the Philippines about a guy named Neil Hoag. Maybe you want watch it. "Ben Vogles new life in the wild Philippines" Thank you very much.
