IT APPEARS THEY ARE NO LONGER IN BUSINESS IN THE PHILIPPINES.
Here is a link about leasing and owning provided by Katabatic:
The houses built by KYOOB are modular and mobile and can be legally owned by foreigners according to the literature. Strong containers are used in the manufacturing process.

Rod, I lived in one of these in the Former Yugoslavia on a deployment while I was on active duty. Even in the harsh European-Balkan winters ( down to -15 at times) a small space heater would keep the place cozy.

I agree with other posters here, it sounds like a good deal to westerners but it's in reality way overpriced for the Philippines, if you search for expandable container homes Philippines on youtube, there is a guy who has a very nice one he paid 9000 for from china, and had it delivered, total cost including delivery with broker fees etc. was 14500 dollars, thats a hell of a lot less than 1000000 peso's. Also my sister in law who is a Pinay built a beautiful 2 bedroom home that's twice the size as that with a single car garage and a metal roof, for under 1 mil. peso's and that was only 4 years ago. My point is with those being built in the philippines and avoiding the broker fees, shipping charges, and any import fees, he's really really over charging based on the 14500 dollar one delivered from china ! I believe the name of the company he purchased it from was alibaba . Should be easy to google and verify what I've said.

Alibaba is owned by Jack Ma I believe and they recently bought Lazada, an online marketing company similar to Amazon but much smaller. I am familiar with problems with building products coming from China over the past years. Huge amounts of drywall were shipped to the USA and later found to be inferior and have toxic substances in it I believe. They were caught putting melamine into dog/cat food and baby formula killing some animals in the USA. Melamine tricked the test equipment into measuring higher levels of protein. We used melamine foams as fire resistant sound absorbing panels as well. There is another company or more who make less expensive units in the Philippines and they target the lower income people. Thanks for sharing this info. You can build a nice house for that money as well.

Thanks for the reply, I don't disagree that you have to be very careful and do research on anything out of china, everything from led in paint to dangerous chemicals, look what they did in the honey industry, mixing syrup with it and trying to fool the inspectors . I enjoy your vlog, keep up the good work. You could be right about inferior materials for sure.

I got a little confused by the comments thinking this is a new video because it came up in my list. That's okay because it's very informative. I think condo living is the same here in the US. They're starting to build Tiny or Small houses here that people can move easily if they want to travel with it (tiny houses) or need something more affordable as in small houses. The small houses look a lot smaller than what I call a small house though. We've usually bought big older homes we could fix up and now we're in a one story older home so it feels smaller to me but fits us better. Yup, I'm spoiled by comparison. I don't think I could live long term in a tiny house.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. A medium to small size fits me ok but many westerners prefer larger houses. I will accumulate too much stuff. I do like a nice office in my home and a garage/workshop and that is rarer here.

The insulation used on these container houses is similar to the ones sold here in the US. They make the interior temperature 20-25deg F cooler. It is made of bubble wrap with one side aluminized plastic of sort. And if add a regular roof on top of the container original roof that would be even cooler.
@AmazingPhilippines1

That is what I thought. I have used some on a wall that was getting direct sunlight and it prevented the wall from getting hot and lowered my electric bill. I also bought some for a friend who lived in a boarding house and they were surprised how much difference it made in temperature. Thanks for watching.

There is a nice beachfront resort in northern Cebu that's entirely constructed from these container vans. The place is called Anika Island Resort in Bantayan Island. I am totally sold on these. Thanks Rod..

Looks great, thanks. And would maybe add more overhang to protect any direct sun from hitting the easy bake oven sides. Maybe eliminating the gable ends for a hip roof. And yes, from an engineering prospective, the mobility would allow the unit to displace the energy from an earthquake, potential, depending on the tie downs. I use to build with prefab concrete panels (Superior Walls) for foundations both above grade and below, even in areas with deep frost. The foundations were/are craned into place and bolted together, sat on 1/2" gravel, that is vibrated with a plate tamper. Gravel footers are approx.4 to 8" in depth and about 16 to 24" wide. The system fairs better than a traditional concrete foundation and is accepted by US International Code book. And of course, tie down straps to weighted concrete footers would be essential for high wind locations with a few bolts rated to break away in case of lets say, a 5.0 earthquake. That would then allow the unit to dissipate the energy. Or the tie downs could be the type to allow the unit to shift in a movable stirrup . . . All of that would need to be designed by a P.E.
@AmazingPhilippines1
@AmazingPhilippines1 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that information Joe. I think this company is out of the PH at this time but there are other companies doing similar things with containers. A tie-down and good base would be important.

Interesting Robert. I tried to get an interview with them a couple of years ago and was told everyone was going to the USA for meetings and we could talk when they got back. I haven't seen the place open since then. There are a couple of manufacturers in the Philippines that do this type of work. If you are handy, you could probably do it yourself.

Sounds like a great deal and a cheap route to own your own home BUT if you cant own land in the philippines, where would you put it? Lets say you found someone who owns land & they will rent the land. I heard too many storys where foreigners lost out in the long run!....I would like to know all the legal info about owning one of these homes and where could you put it if you cant own the land??? Here in America they sell them shipping containers pretty much all over america! You can get a 20 foot long container or a 40 foot container! They also have a container that has an extra foot in height for those looking for extra ceiling room. One thing about a shipping container, they have plywood floors already which is easy to work with, you just have to own a cutting torch...lol You can get a good shipping container here for $2500 and up for a 40 foot container....Buy 2 and attach them together, be just like a double wide!

Sounds good in theory but if a land owner doesn't want you on their land or there's some dispute you'll be stuffed if you can't find another place. They should be allocating land that foreigners can own.

@aglayamajorem9546
@aglayamajorem9546 7 жыл бұрын
max miser There's a reason why foreigners can't own land. It's same in Thailand. There's always possibility of foreigner raising prices of property if they own land and that won't be good for average low middle income natives to buy and also own land. Also, look at Vancouver and how the Chinese greedily spend on many properties there. We don't want that situation in the Philippines.
@maxmiser286
@maxmiser286 7 жыл бұрын
+Philemona Myshkin If specific areas are designated for foreigners to legally own land it should not affect the average joe at all. Yes I've seen the documentary on the Chinese in Canada. It's crazy that they have allowed that when you cannot do the same in China. Do you not think Filipinos and other migrants push up prices when they go overseas as they are allowed to buy land and property pushing it out of reach to the locals. What about those folk? If they can do it in America or the UK I see no reason why foreigners aren't allowed to do so in the Philippines.

The insulation R value is as important when cooling a building as in heating it. I am somewhat surprised that insulation does not seem to be used that often in homes there, with the electric rates as high as they are there I would think it would be used much more, to conserve energy.

Thanks for watching and commenting Lucian. These particular units are made from steel shipping containers. The USA had an "energy crisis" back in the 70's and started insulating building very tightly. The problem that it created was the lack of proper air change and many of the building materials, carpet, and furniture giving off fumes that were then breathed.
@ISPRI2011

More or less same materials are used also today in the "Anglosfere". In New Zealand even the most luxurious homes are build with prefab materials and a lot of plastic. All of them are "liking" and at night you have the sensation that you are sleeping with a plastic bag over your face. At least this is how we fell..."we" the Europeans used to sleep in "good old fashion" homes made with red bricks, double windows and mortar.
